This may be the shortest thread ever, but does anyone know of any Prog that features the Bagpipe?
Or any that uses it in some songs? It seems like something Mike Oldfield and Iona have done on occassion, but I can't recall.
It seems like it would be a cool sound if done properly in a prog format. I am not sure where or why this popped in my brain...
AEP, you mentioned bagpipes so pls do listen to this, I think you'll like them, I think they are brilliant really Red Hot Chilli Pipers Smoke On The Water and Thunderstruck https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YdkolAEHj4
That was quite fun! Smoke on the Water would not have been high on the list of bagpipe songs...

^ That was interesting. I remember watching an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond where Ray's cousin Gerard kept playing the riff from "Smoke On The Water" on an accordion.

The Beatles were in the forefront of prog really in my opinion, this track maybe not so much but it's Paul McCartney and he can do no wrong plus he comes up with funny song titles and I like those too this track Paul McCartney & Wings - Mull of Kintyre http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFRcMYjut4o I do prefer I am a walrus tho' but no bagpipes there

Oh wow Ivan, I almost forgot it had bagpipes the Gabriel one, I have the Secret World Live Dvd awwww Come Talk to me this track is most beautiful!!!! stunning really ! Thank you for reminding me I must listen to this now!!! Somehow it feels like like Paul Simon and Johnny Clegg yet a tad proggier
I agree that Secret World Life is the video by Peter.
But i honestly don't feel too much from paul Simon or Clegg, he reminds me of Steve Winwood more.
Thanks to you, I will watch the Secret World video tonight, I just bought True Blood on DVD, but without band is not the same, and he will never present a drummer as good as Manu Katche.

Here is the one with Johnny Clegg Johnny Clegg- Asimbonanga http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wX9H40q1vlI obviously none have Peter Gabriel's vocals, but this music reminds of Gabriel on both tracks you mentioned, no bagpipes on here however instrumentals and rhythm also do remind me of your suggestion

No bagpipes here too but this is another track that reminds me of Peter Gabriel's come talk to me, although I must add that Gabriel's is more emtional but it's the feel of the moozik I talk about Johnny Clegg - Great Heart (46664 Arctic 2005)
Unless you are a Bugs fan and want to enjoy the whole thing, the bagpipe part is over by the 2 minute part (well there is a brief part at the end also).

Yes, in terms of World Music with African influence both have a very similar style, as a fact PG is considered by some as the creator of World Music and Klegg as his successor.
But vocally both are different, Johnny reaches higher notes easier than Peter b ut PG has that rough voice and the unique semi yodel.
The funny thing is that both are almost the same age but Peter looks like his dad
