I am listening to the first one right now. Thumbs Up

while I've got you here, just yesterday I picked up a used CD that caught my attention because it was on Chris Cutler's label (ReR), but I'd never heard of the band/artist.  the group name is "WHEN", and it's basically Lars Pedersen (from Norway).  Do you have any knowledge of this guy?  The album so far seems like dark soundscapes, kinda spacey, kinda ambient, kind of musique concrete too.

Well, the name rang a bell, but it was in regards to Ulver for some reason. I then had a quick peak, and sure enough - he played with Ulver live at some point on the 00s. Here's a link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/When_(Pedersen)#Lars_Pedersen
The band When does however sound like something I'd enjoy immensely, so thanks for the fingerpointBig smile

Not only Ulver, but The Last James, which is a band I discovered back in the 90s, when they were doing very authentic sounding Beatles/Beach Boys like psychedelic pop, at a time when not many bands had thought to do that yet (now, of course, it's everywhere).

Listening to this When album, I'm quite impressed.  It's the one with Cutler on it, I think he wrote the lyrics.  I haven't heard any lyrics yet, though.  Maybe he wrote them in parentheses.  (edit: never mind, I finally heard some words)

I kinda like the whole Beach Boys psychedelia thing roaming the airwaves at the moment. Animal Collective, Of Montreal and to a lesser extent Grizzly Bear. All of them fine bands imo.
Either way, I am getting intrigued here - even if Cutler chose to mime on the albumCool

Going to give to Henry Cow though. A classic.
I'll start with Phil since he's in New Jersey and in the path of Frankenstorm and who knows how long he will have power.  Please keep safe Phil, it should all be over by morning. And how about those Giants !
That Henry Cow album is rated surprisingly low on this site. It was dedicated to Robert Wyatt and it was Lindsay Cooper's first appearance with the Cow.

Man i'm in a funk today, partly the grey and rainy weather and partly because it's Monday i suppose. Nice to see the votes spread out fairly evenly for a change.
Yeah i figured you'd vote Mirthkon Jon but i'll leave that up to youLOL.  I hate when i can't decide. Anyway both are amazing but i'd probably give Mirthkon a slight edge as far as the enjoyment factor goes.

Quite a few of the others i know by name only. I heard some Steve Hillage a long time ago, and didn't like what i heard, though i don't remember what album it was.

I love those early Hawkwind records and of the first three this is my favourite. Just a great mood with that psychedelic vibe with sax and it's pretty tripped out other than the rocker "Master Of The Universe". A special album.

Yup and this is one of my favourite Magma albums. I prefer it to KA and i probably should have voted for it like you and bytor2112. I just had to give Gila a vote. That Gila album is live but you'd never know it as there's no crowd noise at all. Also it's all new material so it's just like listening to a new album and this one is amazing.

Oh, easy vote. How is there no love for Steve Hillage's stunner `Green' yet?!

An essential album for me, I still play it very frequently. Great production, lovely drifting spacey atmosphere, heartfelt cosmic and nature lyrics - and the LP I first got the album on was lime green vinyl!!

But Doug is right, the Hawkwind album is a knockout as well, and easily one of my favourite by that band. Only came to really love it quite recently too.

But Brandon (Raccoon) is also correct, Magma is always very good, even though `E.R' is not my favourite of their last few - `K.A' and `F.Thosz' are much more consistent in my opinion!

Fish Rising is my favourite from Hillage but this would be number two for me. Man this reminds me of the Ozric Tentacles. Nick Mason helped produce it and also played some drums on it.

Hmmm, `Fish Rising' and `Green' sound totally different from eachother! Whereas `Green' is the spacy cosmic rocker, `Fish..' is a total Canterbury blowout! I'm still getting my head around that one, and I've had the CD for years!

Both terrific albums!

LOL I know the feeling. I have several obscure albums from bands that almost sound the same, and then there's bands that share the same name. Et Cetera for example. Too many bands with that name

LOL Yeah and Octupus is another. Miriodor is doing well here. Thanks Scott and Steve for your posts and David too, and for the videos. That Parade album has Lars Hollmer(Samla Mammas Manna) guesting on it and a bonus live disc from Nearfest.

Thanks mate. Beer  Yeah tonight will be the worst of it. Lights have been flickering for the past 2 hours or so...I'm anticipating the loss of light anytime now. And indeed! Both San Fran and New York...good day to be the giants! Hell of a run by the baseball one though...surprised they swept but no complaints. Tongue

And yes...I suppose Unrest is a little too 'out' for the majority here. Esp side 2. And Cooper's presence on it is one of my favorite things about it. Cool
Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive

Fine, fine, I'll give miRthkon the vote.  One, the album as a whole doesn't have any bad tracks (IMO) and B, they're behind Henry Cow right now...gotta TRY to keep the two even. Wink

Damn it, I know all these bands but not by these albums. Miriodor are definitely great, Mirthkon is the one I should get ASAP. So my vote goes to Happy Family, it's not the best by them and I might vote for someone else if I knew it, but I like their debut as well, a lot of amazing playing there. Fantastic band!

Hopefully Phil is okay, looks like he went off the air around 6:30 last evening. He's in New Jersey which got hit hard and i'm sure he's just without power.

I had no idea, I hope he's ok.
I'm putting on some mad music for him right now, since he's without juice. Koenjihakkei - Ni it isApprove
