yeah, never underestimate a powerfill ballad (not a power ballad), it is interesting to think that the most haled KC song is the ballad Starless, though a long and complex ballad, a progressive ballad, but still a ballad, i stil the ballad format is very easly dismissed as something that has to do with romance and love, but that is only a small portion of what ballad as a genere/style is, ballad is one of the most important ingrediance in a prog album IMO

Jens Kidman seems to have the writing ability necessary to write lyrics for a ballad that wouldn't sound stupid or cheesy.

The ballad probably derives its name from medieval French dance songs or "ballares" (from which we also get ballet), as did the alternative rival form that became the French Ballade. In theme and function they may originate from Scandinavian and Germanic traditions of storytelling that can be seen in poems such as Beowulf.[1] The earliest example we have of a recognisable ballad in form in England is ‘Judas’ in a 13th-century manuscript.[2] |
