No neo means new although I do find it quite rediculas to use the word "neo" with "proggressive" becouse the two do to a certain extent share the same common meaning. If something is to be labled Progressive, it has to be original, new, and grounbreaking( Funny I never thought about this before) therefore it is quite obvius to see how most groups labled in this forum are not truley progressive but they are new in the sense that they have been around for the last 10+ years......so I soppose that is what Neo must mean in this forum atleast.
However, some music can be labled recycled becouse they are more of the same thing which therefor means they are not progressive as in the case of most of these titled "neo progressive" bands( although there are some new bands that are truley proggresive by definition, none of them however are on this forum-except anglaguard wich have a slightly didtinctive sound-or on your playlist).other truly progressive bands that have come in the last 10+ years are Echolyn, Happy family, White Willow, Ozric Tenticles, Fire Merchants, Opeth(to some degree) and a couple more that do not come to mind now.

I dont mean that any of the bands on this forum are bad(There pretty good to a degree, and i do enjoy some) but they just do not measur up to the definition.

I only have Contagion, and it's quite boring. It has nice melodies and everything, but everything they do on this album has been done better by other bands.

Marillion... otherwise neo prog is (enough people have slammed prog metal, RIO, The Mars Votla and/or Radiohead in the last few weeks to bring me to the "sick" emoticon. It's serious stuff )

I don't think Contagion is a boring stuff. Anyway, try to listen a previous work, "The Visitor".This is the best ARENA album I've heard so far. Arguably the apex of the band. Very complex, good melodies and a lot of Nolan's keyboard. I expecially like the really great opener "A Crack in the Ice", Imo one of the best song of the group.

To me The Flower Kings without doubts, despite all the useless filler they stuff their albums with!
Then come Spock's Beard, and third Marillion

Although I love Marillion, IQ, and Arena, I'd have to say my favorite "neo" prog bands are The Flower Kings and Porcupine Tree.

The Flower Kings - I love their epics. About the only neo-prog that does it for me.

I think that IQ & Jadis are at the top of the tree... Marillion, Arena, Pallas & Pendragon are in the second rank...
