Let's see, I would normally say Genesis right away but Epignosis gave me an idea.
So let's compare albums: Early Yes stuff = Genesis to Revelation Yes Album >> Trespass Fragile = Nursery Crime Close to The Edge < Foxtrot Tales << Selling England Relayer < Lamb Going For the One >> Trick of the Tail Tormato = Wuthering Heights Drama > And Then Were Three 90125 > [any Genesis pop album] That means it's Yes! By a hair, but still. Dammit, I hate it when Epignosis is right Edited by Bonnek - September 14 2010 at 16:30 |

And so it begins . . .
Obviously not an easy choice by any measure, but I've gone with Genesis. Oddly enough of all the big boys of classic prog it took me the longest to get around to fully appreciating them. Yes have been a steady force in my life, but from the other shop I only had Trick of the Tail for the longest time, and though I loved that album, I somehow never got around to buying another one for a decade or more. Now they've climbed their way to the tippytop of fave groups. |

I will cast the 20th, and tying vote, for Yes.

Cannot someone vote for me? This is so painful... Well then
(corrected.)
And if I have to choose between Supper's Ready and CTTE I'll vote for CTTE...probably. |

Well since we're doing this, I might as well follow along.
Yes > From Genesis to Revelation Time and a Word < Trespass
The Yes Album = Nursery Cryme
Fragile < Foxtrot
Close to the Edge < Selling England by the Pound
Tales from Topographic Oceans < The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway
Relayer = Trick of the Tail
Going for the One < Wind & Wuthering
Tormato < And Then There Were Three
Drama = Duke The choice is obvious for me. All of the Yes albums (minus a few) are in the 4-5 star range, but most of the Genesis albums are a solid 5 star IMO. |

I'm afraid I don't follow.... Unless you were a member of Yes, that first comment makes no sense. |

I'm pretty sure the Lady means can someone make her decision for her so she doesn't have to cast such a painful vote. I'd hope, even with all the egos involved, no one member of Yes would say "I am Yes." |

Oh dear Lord... this poll is going to be bloody... I've gotta go with Yes myself, for three reasons:
1. Yes recorded "Close to the Edge."
2. Rick Wakeman and Chris Squire are my favorite keyboardist and bassist, respectively. 3. Yes recorded "Close to the Edge."

Let me have a go at this. Yes ? From Genesis to Revelation(don't have Genesis debut but I really like Yes's debut) Time and a Word = Trespass
The Yes Album > Nursery Cryme
Fragile < Foxtrot
Close to the Edge = Selling England by the Pound
Tales from Topographic Oceans > The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway
Relayer > Trick of the Tail
Going for the One = Wind & Wuthering
Tormato > And Then There Were Three
Drama > Duke90125, Big Generator, Talk > Genesis's pop albums also The Ladder > ??? Magnification > ??? Not to mention some stellar live albums and DVDs. Definite win for Yes, especially Genesis never returned to the magic. |

This might get interesting, but....
Genesis! I never could get passed Jon's voice, even though I love Yes's music. I also prefer Genesis's music and Gabriel's lyrics. |

Unless you're some sort of ultra-snob, you will agree that these are two of the greatest and most fundamental progressive bands of all time. Choosing between the two is an extraordinary task... but Yes takes it.

Oh well, this is really tough one! I love Yes but I love Genesis more (Gabriel's Genesis to be exact). So, my vote goes to Genesis. But both these bands are on my top, so it's pity :-(

head explodes, but recently I have listend to Genesis over and over again, and I love thier sound they know how to compose great tunes both prog and pop, while Yes is also a magical band, and have moments which gives tears to my eyes, but I think Genesis is even more emotion evoking then Yes,
and Genesis is more mysterious and dark, greater specters between dark and light, happy and moody, songs like Seven Stones which are just swiming in melodie and delicious sounds and great instrumentation, also they play more deliceous, more like a smooth jazz like band or a ready oiled clockwork
ahh cant wote since I lack some of their discography
