I was quite happy with Windows 3.11, actually.

LOL

Well yeah, exactly.
The fact you could buy a new Windows 98 computer already 1-2 years into the Windows XP life cycle at the time boggles my mind.

You are not going to find anything for Windows 98 because the world moved on a long time ago. It's over a decade old!

See if your PC can run XP and upgrade, that will buy you some time because a lot of people have held on to XP during the backlash against Vista. But it would probably be easier to wait a little bit and buy a cheap desktop with Windows 7, since the upgrade is still $100 and you won't be paying to upgrade to an obselete OS.

What I need is time to save all the music, photos and other files I have in this computer which are legendary just like this computer.

Like I said, I do have a PC with Windows XP, but don't use it often.

Well Firefox 3 does not even work with Windows 98. Firefox 2 did, which shocks me since its lifecycle was 2006-2008. Hooray for file hoster with too much bandwidth

I would recommend getting an external hard drive and just transferring the files to the new computer, you're not going to be able to keep this up much longer.

So in Argentina, computer stores can pass off computers over 4 years old as new and the authorities don't seem particularly bothered by that?

You know, XP is pretty much the "standard" nowadays, and is a fairly reliable OS.

Somebody brought me their pc over the summer and asked me to install XP on it. They already had Windows ME installed on a 1.5GB hard drive. Needless to say I never put XP on it.

Maybe the computer didn't come with a pre-installed OS and Win98 was the choice of the user... In many countries computers are still not sold with pre-installed OSs even today.

True, but he said he has XP installed. If you have the installation cd still, you could just slap it on the other pc. Not technically legal though.

How have Argentine retailers evaded the disciplined and morally just international computer parts detectives? The horror! The mischief! The tawdry capers! Stay tuned for another episode of The Authorities Have Other Things To Do!

While there are no good web-browsers post 89, unfortunately the first web browser is credited to be WorldWideWeb (later renamed Nexus) released in 1991.

Anyway, I almost wish I could stick with Erwise.

Is that a shot at Argentina? Because their police being too corrupt to do anything is a stereotype!
