To be honest, I don't have the kind of money to be acquiring new albums all the time (I'm still working on obtaining classic albums also). On top of that, I've noticed that Kansas's albums get far less attention than Porcupine Tree's recent work, for instance (Fear of a Blank Planet - 132 reviews, Leftoverture -74 reviews). So I don't really suppose it's fair to reward reviewers simply because they are about more recent albums. Plus, there are many old albums with only a few or no reviews. But I do spent quite a bit of time writing my reviews, and I put a lot of thought into them. I give a track by track analysis of every record. So when I get around to writing one about "Close to the Edge" or "Thick as a Brick," I'll put just as much thought into those. |

Just a random thought...is it possible to put weight based on the number of words, instead of number of reviews?
That way, whatever album someone chooses to review, you put more weight on the more thoughtful reviews? Not that I've been a big reviewer on the site (something I'm hoping to change in the near future), but, it does seem to me that those who put in the time to write a 500 word review deserve more of a chance than someone who puts in a 50 word review. I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

In a near future you'll see a new system that will also consider the appreciation of readers. So the weight will be based on the appreciation also.
What do you think of that ? I think it's more objective that the number of words.... a nice idea though !

I like the idea, especially since my reviews tend to be long- the only pitfall, though, is that many words don't always mean more thoughtful, unfortunately. I've read Moby Dick. |

...so have I. Point taken.
I like the idea of reader appreciation. I think that may be the way to go. But first won't we need a system for rating the reviews? Like they have at Amazon (or is it CD Universe?).

I can't say I'd like a rating system for reviews. It hate to see my hard work and my opinion being dragged through the mud because I have a EDIT: Freudian slip or just mistake? Edited by LinusW - November 27 2008 at 20:04 |

Saddening, and with a rating system we'd make that even more uncontrollable. |

What if the winner ah................ never mind I forgot that I`m living in the future. Anyone out there get a PM from a fictional website asking for reviews?
Now, and I`ve mentioned this before, I don`t know if this has happened to anyone else out there but a lot of my crappy reviews have been stolen from other websites and I`ve even seen snippets of some of them on youtube. The same thing has happened with bits and pieces of some of the band bios I`ve written here. Personally, I write reviews and these bios for the fun of it when I have time or sometimes because I just want to spread the good word. One thing I`ve also noticed is that a lot of the reviews I`ve read here are far superior to most of these so-called professional reviews because they are more informed. That`s it. I have to catch the next time machine back to the mid sixteenth century. |
