Terriffic song -- i've always counted it among my favourites from the Collins-fronted era.
Great fun -- an entertaining story, well-crafted lyrics, a jaunty tune, a good vocal performance, and some top-notch instrumental work from Banks and the band.
The Genesis boys still "had it' at that juncture -- very much so!

I don't understand why Phil Collins sung it in mockney when he's practically a cockney anyway, I guess he thought he was reprising his Artful Dodger role. The middle instrumental break? yeah, well it's Genesis, it's what they were good at, but if doesn't matter how much sugar you put on a cow-pat, it's still manure.
Anywho, much rather listen to There Goes a Tenner by Kate Bush.

Horible, the worst song on the otherwise good Trick of the tail album. I voted bad song.

I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion...no matter how wrong.
It is a perfectly acceptable part of the great Genesis classics.

Brilliant, just brilliant Dean. I agree with you about Kate Bush, although I must admit a find that song a teensy bit embarrassing as well.

It's a good song and fun to listen to. I don't see anything wrong with it. In fact, I quite like it.

Neither good or bad. It sits somewhere in the middle. The instrumental sections show just how good Genesis could be at the time, and the verses show just how bad they could be.

A good song. When Genesis tried comedy songs for light relief they generally fell a bit flat, but this one actually works pretty well. Not a classic, but it fits in nicely with the rest of ATOTT and the instrumental break, as others have already pointed out, is superb. And it's at least 8 zillion times better than All In A Mouse's Night - mind you, the same could be said for Wannabe by The Spice Girls.

I quite like it myself. The instrumental break is one of my favorites on the album. The only issue I have with it is that Phil is no Peter, so the characters seem a bit muffled together and indistinguishable. I still think it's a better effort than Squonk or the title track, though.

Same here, it would be much better but, the instrumental druming is so goad awful I can barely get passed it.

I am listening to this song again as I type and have decided that I really like it. I had marked the A Good Song button when this poll was originally created but upon further listening I have decided that I really do like this song. Oh well, for what it is worth I just thought I would share this bit of useless information.
