From personal experience I've never seen a math rock / math metal band being melodic. That's not what math-something bands are set to do.
The unmelodic, the better!

DEI's a great album but I didn't think it'd be everyone's favourite on a prog site, heh. I much prefer the Catch 33 direction they've taken.

Yeah "I" is fantastic, I am actually playing it now to scare away my little sister, but yeah it takes a bit of time to get used to (or the fact that I play drums so that's what I admire) but I see rhythms as just as musical as melody.
