I personally prefer Can's debut or even their fifth album Landed over their classic Tago Mago. I probably was expecting too much from that album plus the whispering style vocals sometimes doesn't do it for me.

I listened to the debut of Amon Düül II and it wasn't to my taste. Neu! I like, despite only releasing two/three proper albums. Faust is another good example, especially Faust IV though their other initial releases are also worth exploring. [Some think that Faust released unfinished studio trickery masquerading in the form of albums due to their experimental style, what do you think of that view?]. La Dusseldorf has couple of decent releases as well.

Kraftwerk is considered krautrock, right? Then, their Autobahn and Computer World are two pioneering pieces.

I am listening to the discography of Guru Guru, currently but no standout albums for me till now. This thread has some other interesting recommendations I haven't heard till now.

I consider Kraftwerk's three first albums (pre Autobahn) to be Krautrock, but after that there's no rock left. The ones you mention I think of as Progressive Electronic / Synthpop.

Members of Kraftwerk kind of distanced themselves from their original couple of albums, right indicating that it was different from their distinctive style they later formed? I have listened to Kraftwerk, but only from Autobahn onwards, I still need to listen to their first two stuff.

Hi,

You guys are killing me ... made me cry as this stuff was the primo dope in the early Space Pirate Radio, though by that time, both Guy and I had already stopped ingesting much of anything of the kind. The music itself was more important and exciting! And these days, seeing that Guy is not doing any more shows, is putting a real tear in my eyes ... the music was great, but someone actually showing it on the air at the time?

As mentioned sometime ... some things are so heavy they are weightless!
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

Hi,

In some ways the earlier stuff is WAY BETTER, than anything else they did right after their big hit. Before, they had a much more free form style that was not quite centered on the "idea" and "song" concept to create an illusion for our minds ... it was, just like the early Krautrock, much freer and exploratory, and this was the part that went away with their fame. Kraftwerk, for me, is not any better after Autobahn ... just more radio and fame oriented, and as such ... my interest dropped ... the creativity was not there anymore!
