Tull spends a lot more time on my turntable.
Welcome to the middle of the film.

Love both. But Tull overall.

Never much of a fan of Tull--always expected more from them, but LedZep is just . . . jaw-dropping awesome--the best four-(and only four-)member "band" ever.

Except for Queen, Pink Floyd, Camel, Big Country.

wow.. Drew bringing it Heart.. well allow me to retort!!!! LOL

no no no no man...  no even close.

Moon, Entwistle, Townsend, Daltrey

Moon destroys Bonham
OX slaps aside JPJ
Page urinates on Pete
Roger punches out Percy cold

add in songwriting in which they absolutely nuke Zep.. and that is a easy vote for best 4. and really the only one to stand against the fab 4 themselves.

TULL! A far more interesting band, with a better lead guitarist (yes, I went there).

LZ is nearly as overrated as the most overrated band ever, The ****les.

Love both, but Zeppelin crush most anything in their path.
Porg for short. My love of music doesn't end with prog! Feel free to discuss all sorts of music with me. Odds are I'll give it a chance if I haven't already! :)

Tough choice indeed...............
The first 7 Zep lp's are very good....but so are 7 or 8 of the first 12 Tull lp's....Tull having a larger body of quality work even though they slipped later on.
Hard call to make....but Stand Up and Benefit are two lp's that have always deeply resonated with me...so for those two I give the edge to Tull.....but it's a slight one.
One does nothing yet nothing is left undone.

Zeps sound American to me. All the best bands were English and European

Edited by dr prog - May 25 2020 at 15:08
All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

Led Zeppelin, easily. I especially love their acoustic/folk atmosphere, on the other hand I never got into JT folk. My favs, Rush, took obviously a lot of inspiration from Zeppelin. Without Zep influence there wouldn't be 70s Rush classics.

Robert Plant is a better singer, while Ian Anderson is a better flute player. Smile

Quite different bands anyway. Voted for Zeps though.

I like some Led Zep and I don't like some Tull... but if I make a top 5 list of albums from both of these bands, it'd be all Tull (no. 6 maybe Zep... maybe).

Not counting the Beatles(oops I said their name ;) )as a single digit youngster, Zepp were the first band I got into in a big way and in some ways paved the way for me getting into arena rock, hard rock and ultimately prog rock. However, after I got into prog I gradually "outgrew" LZ in favor of more complex and interesting(in my mind at the time)music. So these days I would say Tull but I still have an appreciation for LZ and in fact was playing a bit of 4 earlier today.

I actually find it hard to make my mind on this one, they are both great... I guess I have to give the nod to Zepp, though. Still, I only wish, when they toured together, that they might have helped each other on a few songs... for example, I can think of Stairway to Heaven, if only Anderson had come in to play the flute for them in the intro (and then join in in the last hard rocking part of the song with his flute again). Or perhaps on Kashmir, have either the bass player or the keyboard player from Tull help out, so that they could play both instruments (or on some other song from Zepp that uses keyboards). Or Plant might have come out to help Anderson sing whenever a song required flute and singing at the same time.
