I'm mostly referring to how many times they trailed in that game and the field goal at the end of the game barely squeaking in. Of course, on second look I probably worded that poorly. They did manage to persevere and keep themselves in the game throughout. And Week 1 still has a sore taste in my mouth. |

Ok...my initial reaction to the play was a TD as I stated earlier......This picture clearly shows Tate had possesion of the ball with both feet on the ground while Jennigs was still in the air with neither foot on the ground and also possesion of the ball......
By NFL rules its a TD and the replacement refs made the right call........

While I do believe the officiating was getting out of hand in terms of pass interference and roughing the passer and stuff like that...I do want to point out some irony.
Probably not on purpose but due to incomptence, we are getting actually what a lot of people want: "letting them play"
Aaaaand a lot of players hate it. Complaints of holding, dirty play, alot of sh*t going uncalled.
So to all the "old schoolers" sorry the game has indeed changed and no one REALLY wants to see the ol wild west days anymore.

Thank god! Still got to dot the t's and cross the i's but it seems like mostly paperwork and signings at this moment. Refs are scheduled to be at the Browns V Ravens game tomorrow evening.

Yeah, I'm just glad it's over now. I heard the main reason the discussion even occurred was because the NFL front offices got flooded with 70,000 calls from angry fans about the Packers-Seahawks game. It sounds like they gave in to a lot of the referees' demands because of it though.

I'm not happy about this.........having these refs made watching the NFL a lot more interesting. Watching teams on both sides of the ball asking for flags when in normal times they would not even think about gesturing for a flag....
Boring......People like controversy, ist what makes ok TV, GREAT TV!! I love hearing all the bitchin goin on.....its a game.
These refs make a TON of money when you do the math per game......and who is gonna determine which refs are benched for bad performance?
Someone here in my office worked it out that for about 100 hours worth of work a ref will make $150-180K...?
The SuperBowl was actually gonna be fun to watch with these refs.......the game is boring and the commercials sux too now.

It seems the National Financial League (NFL) feared the profits...uh, er integrity of the game might suffer from the outcry to sign the official referees' after a call they said was correct. Funny how quickly the deal got made after all the fuss...
We will still complain about blown calls the real officials make, it just won't take them as long to make the blown call
The season would have been more fun with the replacement refs. Edited by AEProgman - September 27 2012 at 13:51 |

The greatest irony in all this is just last year we HATED the refs.
Constant gripes about how pass interference and roughing the QB were becoming a joke, how certain QBs and even teams have bias for them, and their general suckiness. In last years thread we had a brief discussion, (since all we pretty much agreed) on how the refs seemed to understand which teams are "supposed" to be favored and did so... Now they have our standing ovation I really do think generally the replacement refs were not that bad. We scrutinized them waaaay more than normal for obvious reasons. My biggest complaint was the general slowness and their inability to control the game. They were disorganized and slow though, and the few major debacles were very major, glad the originals are back. Final note: The refs are a****les! A part time job that makes $100k-ish a year with pensions, and non contribution pensions mind you??? Get a 401k like we all have to! Three 50+ yard field goals for Phil Dawson
I've actually been impressed with this Weeden. Game started very conservative, and he made some bad throws and looked timid at times...but after that 96 yard drive he's been solid and shown some good play. Has stood up well enough to alot of pressure at times. Edited by JJLehto - September 27 2012 at 22:32 |

I agree JJ....the "other" refs really were not that bad.....I feel that most of their downfall was mostly due to the NFL head-orifice probably not getting them as prepared as they could be and/or not giving them all the tools to be successful.
Any blame on this issue should only lie with GODell...he should step down. To say on TV that Sunday's games and MNF did not contribute to the quickness of getting the issue resolved is a joke......Its all about money and he proved it in the first 3-4wks of the season.....he left no doubt.
The ref that made the TD call in Seattle.....as far as I am concerned that guy is a rock-star! If I were him I would be raking in the dough and making the rounds on Letterman and other shows.......Any signature on anything for $500.....Lets go!

Seriously.
Granted their mistakes WERE big ones and while I uneasy at the idea of Div III college refs, I cant believe one of the replacements was fired from the lingerie league. God damn, why didn't they just they just pick people off the street? Yeah, I was all on board for Goodell at first but year after years he's widdled away my support (and the last 2 he took an axe to it). Enough of that crap. Stoked for G Men/Eagles primetime. Every fiber of my being wants to say how this should be a W for the Giants and how well it all lines up, but I know the team and I know this rivalry. A 4 - 3 ugly loss is entirely possible. Really looking forward to the Packers/Saints game. Should be good, I'll dub it the "angry bowl" Who really wants to get angry and tear it up now? The 0-3 Saints, or the jipped Packers? Would be a great motivation for the team to get mad. Edited by JJLehto - September 28 2012 at 18:23 |

College football, but has to be stated:
WVU beats Baylor 70-63. Winning QB went 45 of 51 for 656 yards, and 8 tds. At least the NFL hasn't gotten this bad! |
