This, I'd definitely rather have a HL2: Episode 3 of HL3 before anything else from Valve.

^ I wonder if my computer could run that on low settings - been quite interested in it. I just tried the first Witcher - didn't like it. I only played 20 minutes or so, but I still didn't care that much for the combat - seemed muddy like a hack-and-slash.

Yeah, the combat on The Witcher isn't the greatest.  It runs incredibly slow on my laptop too which is quite annoying as more modern games with better graphics seem to run fine.  Hmm.

I may get back into it again as I was intrigued about the story and other elements of it.

Finally finished the first Assassin's Creed, a few years late. My XBox died a couple of years ago and I only bought a new one this summer.

Started a second playthrough of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, what a fantastic game it is. It's a worthy prequel to the original game (let's not talk about Invisible War....).

And then there's the usual suspects like Football Manager and World of Tanks.

I also have a preorder of Skyrim, can't wait for it to be released.
With magic, you can turn a frog into a prince.
With science, you can turn a frog into a Ph.D. and you still have the frog you started with.

If I run it in surround, the cutscene voice acting is either so quiet I can't hear anything or sounds like they're speaking into a tin can. This is fixed if I run it in stereo, but obviously that's not as fun, especially since the rest of the in-game sound is absolutely fantastic.

Anyone else had a similar problem/found a fix?

Now this problem has extended to basically every other game I own Sound in surround during gameplay is perfect, but when cutscenes come on, the voices are so quiet I can hardly make anything out.

I'm tempted to uninstall the Mass Effect 2 gamedata to see if that changes anything but then I'll lose the DLC installation, and I've already used the damn free code.

Tried every single setting with my receiver, tried every speaker connection, tried every audio output option on the PS3, reset PS3 to default settings and then reset the audio output settings, still not working.

I'm using an optic cable from PS3 directly to receiver.

Man this is annoying

That seems like it could be the case. It's one of the fat 80gb models, for what it's worth.

After googling around, a few other people have had the same problem. One guy said it was a broken HDMI and replacing it was all that it took, but I'm not using an HDMI for sound.

Another guy fixed his by running an optical from PS3 to TV then an HDMI to his reciever, although my TV doesn't have Optical I/O. Might just try using two HDMI's doing this.

Blurays/DVD's/CD's all seem to play fine too, its only games and now it seems like it's only in-game rendered cutscenes. The voices in cutscenes in Mirror's Edge are fine, but they're not in-game rendered. Same goes for Demon's Souls.

....Also, Mirror's Edge is like unfulfilled potential: The game. Best art direction + soundtrack combination ever + amazing visuals + awesome gameplay. Shame it only lasts for about 6 hours.

Broken digital out?
and
That's why Mirror's Edge 2 could be one of the greatest games ever.

^That's what I was thinking about the HDMI - it's either all sound or no sound (or so it should be), I'd post the link to the forum thread but the US Playstation Community is down for maintenance.

The only logical thing I've been able to come up with is the PS3 sending the signal for voice acting to a speaker which isn't connected, although all my speakers are working fine with anything else which rules that out.

I also uninstalled the Mass Effect 2 gamedata (the DLC/patches install separately) but still no difference.

If it's not working by the time Skyrim comes out, I will be super mad.

Had a look through the PS3 manual/troubleshooting, couldn't find anything addressing the issue. Warranty is deffs over by now too.

And yes, cannot wait for Mirror's Edge 2. Way to keen for that game.

When mine died, I paid $110 for out of warranty repairs.
Not too bad.

Hmmm, so I booted my PS3 in Safe Mode and chose 'restore file system', and that seems to have fixed the problem. No idea what it was that caused it in the first place but it all seems to be good now

By now my pre order of Dark Souls is up.

I can only take joy in hoping that some kid went to Gamestop excited about getting the game, to be let down when hearing there are no copies left. But then the cashier says "oh wait some guy never picked up his copy" and that kid smiles the biggest smile on Earth...as my Dark Souls is lowered down on a golden cloud.

Hurry up paycheck I have vidya games and music to buy!

Dark Souls is meant to be a challenge JJ. This time, it beat you before you even got the game

Still patiently waiting for mine in the mail.

Yeah Batman: Arkham Asylum runs pretty well on my laptop, just haven't had much time to play. I'm pretty sure I like the storyline and it's been fun so far but I'm not sure if I want the sequel or not...

Well the PC version would run pretty poorly on my laptop, plus the PS3 version is on the Mass Effect 3 engine and came with 25.95$ dollars worth or DLC for 30$, so it's a pretty good deal.

The combat system gets way better after you get some extra movements and stuff like that, damn this game is something really big... can't wait to get the Witcher 2, unfortunately my PC won't run it, so I guess I'll have to get it for the XBOX...

I just finished Gears of War 3 this afternoon... damn what a good game
But now my branches suffer
And my leaves don't bear the glow
They did so long ago
