Which IQ did you listen to?

Also, I think that you might want to try out Red Orchid.  They have some similiarities to Rush.  Their album is available for free on Bandcamp.

I tried Frequency, their apparent masterpiece.
It sounded like watered-down Crossover.
Here is the Red Orchid link.  http://redorchid.bandcamp.com/
I like all of their albums and am a huge fan of Frequency.  Not sure why you don't like it.  Dark Matter, Subterranea, and The Seventh House are probably my favorites.  I would say checkout Harvest of Souls .   This is their Supper's Ready.   If you don't like this, than they probably aren't for you.

I honestly don't really know the difference between Neo Prog and Symphonic Prog.  My understanding from talking to Ivan is that the difference has to do with the keyboards.  Apparently, Symphonic Prog uses pianos, and organs, and moogs, and authentic keyboards, and Neo Prog uses more synths and modern sounding keyboards.  I'm too ignorant to notice the difference.

I'd say neo prog is cheesier. You know, it's got those "emotional" melodies, some parts that sound too much like Yes/Genesis, etc.

Good thing that I like Cheetos.

I'll check them out - the artwork looks great!

I don't know, it really wasn't the vocals, or anything like that. I just wasn't interested....

That song sounded pretty good, i listened to about 3 min in different sections, because i'm about to do a couple of chores real quick. I'll keep the YouTube tab up.

I like the couple of albums that I have from them.  I need to hear their newest release.

This album is amazing. I love the surf rock guitar in it.

My mixtape for any girl will be Brian McKnight and Seal songs, and the last song will be something by Meshuggah.

I've always wanted to have someone to make a mix tape for.

I'd rather suggest bands and albums than give mix tapes.

Ones that I have made have consisted of Chicago, Moody Blues, Elton John, Billy Joel, and Journey with an occasional Rush or Yes ballad thrown in for good measure. Big smile

I'm making mix Spotify playlists. So far she hasn't run screaming yet. In fact, her attitude has been "I have no taste in music so you need to fix that for me"

Everything  Ive heard from bands that are considered neo-prog leave me cold. Marillion, IQ, etc. I like some of what Ive heard, but I'm not crazy about it. Yet I like TFK, SB, Transatlantic, etc. and some still call that neo-prog. It's symphonic prog, and much of their music is more varied and eclectic (I would dare say TFK cross the line between symphonic and eclectic a lot)
Yes, your tastes are kind of a mystery to me.  LOL  I begin thinking the we have a lot in common, and then you say stuff like that.  Wink  Personally, I would think that you would be someone who would like the Marillions, and IQs and Pendragons, because you like the TFKs, SBs and Transatlantics.

I'm sure down the line I'll get into them. Ive been on new music overload for the past year or so
