Even though it's not a very popular one, I'm going to come out loud and proud lol - yes, I'll admit my love for Caravan's `Better By Far'!

Everything from the daggy cover, to the smutty and cheeky lyrics, the upbeat positivity, the peppy poppy numbers, all those zippy keyboard solos...so much fun, and it sounds like the band is having a blast too :)

Everything that makes Caravan so unique and special can still be found in that one for me!

Here I go obsessing again - Jan S never put his organ through a fuzz-box Angry (never mind the ripping mini-moog throughout.............). It's a pretty good album, I like it a lot Thumbs Up

My Caravan collection ends with Blind Dog at St. Dustans, an album I don't livke very much. But the cover of Better by Far has always intrigued me. Hope to purchase it soon.

Is there a remastered version of that one on cd?

Yes, Andrea, I've got the remastered CD myself!

I would definately say `approach with caution', as not a lot of fans like it. It is VERY poppy, not much in the way of super proggy workouts, but heaps of keyboard solos and typical good-natured Caravan trademarks can still be found throughout it. Perhaps listen to some clips on Youtube first to see if you want to take the chance on it!

I really like `Blind Dog....', but those female vocalists are dreadful on it, really date it terribly. Stuff like `Chiefs and Indians' I have a lot of love for, though!

'Nightmare' is a beauty !! And the instrumental - 'Silver Unicorn'.  'Man In A Car' - yeah, a very good album indeed, come to think of it.

Wait, Pierre! The whole album, or `Silver Strings' lol?!

Try Youtube for `Feelin' Alright, `Behind You', or the total classy epic `The Last Unicorn', a gorgeous instrumental

How about the superb Caravan Live At Fairfield Halls - 1974? Do you like it?

Now that's a great performance for all who love their "For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night" studio album.

This one is a great performance for sure, but I only have the vinyl release (the very first Caravan album I bought back in '89).  Shame it wasn't a double LP.

Andrea, I do have that CD, but not listened to it in many years, I remember it was terrific though....thanks, you've encouraged me to dig it out again!

Tom, the remastered CD of New Symphonia adds many more tracks to the concert, so I guess it finally did get a full release! Hah, to enjoy it, you'll have to bite the bullet and buy something called a compact disk lol!

Funny - the back of the New Symphonia LP says that Dave Sinclair plays organ, electric piano AND synthesizer - but the album tracks have no synth that I can hear.............he probably did have one at the gig, but he didn't play it on the tracks selected for the LP..........??
There's also the 'Best Of Caravan - Live' dbl LP which I was lucky to obtain around 20 years ago.  I think that's a Fairfield Halls gig with Mike Wedgewood on bass.  Which brings me to this - Caravan bass players......
No 1 - Richard Sinclair - the best Bowdown
2nd best - John G. Perry (very intricate)
3rd place - Dek Messecar (great tone)
4th - Wedgewood (decent for sure but better in Curved Air)
Last - Jim Leverton (how did this blues dude find himself in Caravan anyway....?? Confused

"Live at the Fairfield Halls" or "Caravan and the New Symphonia"?

Which one do you prefer?
