^ I never liked that IQ album nearly as much as I like Frequency (for instance).

The Final Cut (the greatness of the album can be endlessly debated tho I personally love it) - the cover is unimaginative & dull IMO - it just did not have the panache, flair or artistic creativity of the Hipgnosis produced covers.

The fecal-like look to the character on the album cover puts me off.

Whenever a new Floyd album was announced it was always part of the excitement to speculate what the cover art would be (besides the musical content of course) - I was always pleasantly astonished... well until the release of The Wall and its very stark cover art.

It fits with the concept. Also the inside drawings are great.

Frequency (a masterpiece) was heavily influenced by MO before he left the band, he just didn’t play on it…. Road Of Bones (a masterpiece) Resistance (not a masterpiece, my least favourite of their albums, and a great disappointment - but it does have a lovely cover!!!) All IMHO of course🤓 |

This thread has been very fun to read through, and see all the opinions. I think the cover I disagree with the most for being here is the Alphataurus one, but that's subjectivity for ya. I'm also too gay to hate any of the "nude man" covers on principle, but this one is pretty silly I will admit:
I could say the same about Acid Motherhood because of its wacky colors but I do feel like it fits the offbeat (even by Gong standards) music on there. Plus it just seems very 2004, reminding me of visual styles prevalent when I was a little kid. As for my own contribution, this is prog-adjacent rather than prog but it's still here on PA and I'm very surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet: It's even worse because the '80s IM albums have such amazing and detailed hand-painted art all from the same artist, who set such a high water mark. Even all the singles had unique paintings! Edited by Snikle - April 10 2024 at 10:03 |

Awful cover indeed, also not a good album IMO.

Surprisingly good release from 2023. This was my blurb on first listen: "The ugly cover aside, this is a very nice and eclectic prog rock release, reasonably innovative and at the same time laid-back and comfy. Borderline Zappa at times!"

The completely dull and uninspired pseudo-psychedelic cover art for this 2-CD pack shouldn't deter you from listening to it; instead, let that otherwise great V/A compilation serve as a guide for your search for stunning Prog-Québécois music from the 1970's. |

I don't think the cover art is bad or mediocre, but I agree it's an overrated album. I rarely get back to it these days.

^ The Wall is a masterpiece, I'm rarely getting back to it these days solely because there is so much music to listen to. Which is not a bad problem to have

^ Technically, yes. But The Wall is still awesome. Even The Final Cut is really great IMO. Although there we get into the ugly cover domain
EDIT: Looked up my actual ratings - even TFC is in the S tier. And I stand by that, even though it would be fair to say that it's really a RW solo album rather than a PF release. Edited by MikeEnRegalia - April 11 2024 at 01:52 |
