^ Who knows? Maybe some of the people who think they don’t like prog metal might listen to that Voyager track, and change their mind.

I do think it is a pity Voyager didn’t win, because who knows how that song might have done in Eurovision. It wouldn’t have beaten Ukraine (nothing was going to do that), but it might well have made some new Voyager converts.

I do like Voyager, but they are not one of my favourite prog metal bands. And I don’t dislike this song, so much as it feels like they are trying to take it in two different directions that don’t quite gel.

^ This is my favourite Voyager song. One of my absolute favourite tracks as well. I figure any non-metal listener might also find something to enjoy in this.

There's almost nothing included in prog metal on PA that I actually listen to regularly, although there are a few odds and ends lurking in the dustier corners of my collection. I enjoy some experimental/post metal and some classic metal, but prog metal mostly leaves me cold.
'Like so many of you
I've got my doubts about how much to contribute

Here is a track from Ark. The album "Burn the Sun" is one of the greatest gems of prog metal.

Yes, it's an absolute gem... their lesser known self titled 1st album is also very well worth checking out. Clap

Sorry it just sounds like metal to me. The overwraught vocals and riffing. It’s just not my thing…. Too much other music out there for me to explore….

No, that's fair enough, if it's not your thing, it's not your thing.  It was interesting Burn The Sun was highlighted, because I've known a few members here (including Maani, the first Admin) who didn't like Prog Metal at all, but really rated this pair of albums... Lande has a superbly adaptable voice, whilst the Conception-esque blend of strong melodies with ever changing time signatures make it as fresh and imaginative today as when it was written 20 years ago...

It's go time and we've got eggs on the roof, but we're waiting for the roof particles to clear out of the rain gutters so that we can do some rolling experiments.

To be fair, Krimson have been called pioneers of prog metal many times over. If I recall correctly when they toured with Tool, they were even billed as just that: pioneers of prog metal.

I have to admit that when it comes to prog metal, very little of what is actually under the “prog metal” genre of PA is to my taste. I am far more attracted to the more “experimental/post” metal of bands like Tool.

I also like a good deal of prog metal that can be found in PA under “heavy”, “crossover”, “eclectic”, and “RIO/Avant”.

Even now, I’m unsure whether the poll is asking if we stay away from the PA genre “prog metal”, or the far broader idea of prog metal that exists beyond PA. And, I guess, I would potentially answer the question quite differently, were it to mean the narrower “definition”. I’m far more likely to “avoid” prog metal if we mean PA’s “prog metal”, than I am otherwise.

I’m quite happy to call Krimson prog metal, particularly if the label is ascribed to albums rather than the band. It’s a similar situation with Porcupine Tree, who I’ve seen described often as a prog metal band.

Then why are you a member of the prog metal team??? Wouldn't the team be better served with a member who's taste prefers prog metal?

Because despite not being to his taste, he's still gonna listen to it and give it a fair evaluation.
