being how this is all fun and done for fun. I'll toss this out to everyone.  As I posted earlier, draws were done totally by random except for the top 8 seeds which were placed top and bottom.

Everyone wants  to see ELP v. Camel.. Hell so would I.  It would be a battle royal for sure! LOL However I told myself that I was going to stay true to the shear randomness of it. I know myself, if I shifted one thing.. I might start shifting some others.

The Detroit bracket gave us some good matchups.  The Portland less so, more blowouts than tight for sure so far at least.

So for the sake of fun I'm thinking of changing the bracket order in Portland slightly.  While ELP and Floyd are the top 2 seeds on paper, we all know this bracket will boil down to Gentle Giant v. Floyd.  Neither Camel nor ELP are likely .. pfff.. WILL survive 2nd round matchups. Since this is for fun, if no one has any problems with it, perhaps we can have a bit more fun with this by a slight reordering of the bracket.

Something to look like this. Really just moving the Camel/DSO winner next to ELP.

The Portland Oregon Bracket!!!

ELP v Strawbs
Camel v. Diablo Swing Orchestra
Gentle Giant v. Mahavishnu Orchestra
Area v. Talk Talk

SBB v. Amon Duul  II

Pink Floyd v. Mike Oldfield

nothing really changes except we get a hell raising 2nd matchup with 2 fan favorites going at it instead of going out against strong genre favs. Yet however those 2 real top seeds remain on opposite sides.

Any thoughts, or more to the point. Any strong objections?

We are pleased to welcome back... from whereever and whatever he got himself into our guest analyst Dick Micky for thoughts and half-ass analysis from todays Portland regional matches as well as continuing updates on yesterdays opening action in the Detroit regional.

PS:  Well oh well... Dicky M... are those the same clothes you were wearing yesterday????
Dick:  yeah sorry about missing you this morning.. I got tied up.
PS: literally?
Dick: *impish smile* you can say that. That blond you might have seen with the big hoo...
PS: ahem.  To todays action Dick, I suppose you have kept up with it?
Dick: oh yeah, you might have seen the redhead with the ELP sweatshirt.. kinky little bird.. she wouldn't fuc...
PS: DICK!!!
Dick:sorry. Yes, let's say we couldn't do anything without  the TV on so yeah I've kept up with the results.

PS: So any thoughts?
Dick: redheads RULE!!
PS: on today's action!!!!! Angry
Dick: yeah, it wasn' the best day or perhaps we were spoiled yesterday. Really only 3 of the 8 matches are anywhere close to competitive at this point. Of course things can change but it does seem we got 5 laughers today.  The 3 close ones though should be interesting to watch.  Neu!/Kansas is a good matchup of wildly different bands and fans.
PS: that it is
Dick: as well as the Return to Forever/Radiohead and Area/Talk Talk matches.  Those I'll be watching throughout the week to see how those go.
PS: great. Well time for a word from our sponsers then we will return for you thoughts on yesterdays results and the announcement by the tournament director BIG MICK of the alteration to the brackets for the Portland region.
Dick: will do... I'll be here!

PS: Welcome back prog fans!  So Dick any thoughts on the contests from yesterday.
Dick: Le Orme sure is tenaciously holding on to its lead over Rush. I am still quite surprised by that.  I think Le Orme has been helped by some who simply want to see the upset, a break of the status quo.  It helps Le Orme is a fully viable vote with multiple masterpiece albums. I think many, myself included were myopic in viewing that matchup looking at it from the viewpoint of poor Le Orme, it really should have been poor Rush. They were the ones to get a bad draw, they might still pull through, likely will IMO however I don't think anyone thought it would be as tight as it has been.

PS: any other thoughts.
Dick: yeah I see Zappa is slowly narrowing the substantial lead Soft Machine had opened on it. I'll be watching that to see if .. under the Rush/Orme thunder.. that Zappa steals the win away from Soft Machine. The rest of them seem fairly well decided unless we get substantial turn out from week day visitors who didn't vote this weekend. I'll be curious to see who the voting goes as we go through the week.

PS: so what do you think of BIG MICK's decision to tweak the Portland bracket, in the middle of the competition.
Dick: of course I love it LOL.  I think the tournament director is simply reacting to what people want to see and keeping in mind this is supposed to be fun and giving everyone what they want. I agree the real top 2 seeds in this bracket were Floyd and Gentle Giant and it made sense to have  the two fan favs: ELP and Camel face each other rather than getting squashed by Gentle Giant and Floyd in the next round. Bread and circuses dude.
PS: thanks again for your time Dick and we'll be checking back in with you later this week for updates
Dick: will do!

Breaking News!!!!

Hi everyone.  We'd like to interupt reguarly sceduled programming for a live press conference by ... M@X!! Clap... esteemed owner of PA's.

M@X:  Hello everyone.  First off I'd like to thank everyone for their fabulous support of the PA's Battle of the Bands.  Micky and the tournament committtee...  YOU ALL...  helped craft an interesting and diverse set of bands to duke it out for the title of .. ULTIMATE PA's BAND!!!. That said I have some unfortunate news to pass to you.  First off a break from our sponsors be sure to buy yourself a T-shirt so you can be mocked and ridiculed by the PE's crowd at your next prog festival. Thumbs Up

http://www.zazzle.com/progarchives

M@X: Now some unfortunate news.  We do expect our employees and collaborators to exerizise the highest morality when working for PA's so it is with deep regret that I must announce that our esteemed analyst Dick Micky has been suspended for a week for obscene language, public drunkenness AND other unaccessable behavior with prog fans of the female persuasion. He forgot the cardinal rule that prog fans are not supposed to indulge in sexual escapades, especially with those of the opposite sex and we felt like a message needed to be sent.

PS: excuse me M@X. This is Mick Rather from PS.
M@X: Hey Mick!
PS: so who will take over guest analyst duties while Dickie M is on suspension?
M@X: Me and me crack team of admins and forum moderators have decided that Dickie M, while a lechorous soul, is simply not replaceable so we have decided something different for the time being while Dickie M is in the PA's cooler.
PS: and what would  that be.
M@X: We are going to have guest analysts..  YOU ALL.  When the PS Tournament Special comes back on air Wedsnday att 8pm we will open the internet lines and the first poster to get through will be the night's guest analyst. They will give us their thoughts on the results to that point, as well as thoughts to upcoming Lima bracket on Saturday. We will do the same on Saturday and Sunday when the Rome brackets are announced.
PS: and Dickie M?
M@X: is set to return a week from today assuming he is sufficiently contrite and issues a public apology to the forum for his .. completely unacceptable behavior. Thanks you everyone for understand and Prog On and DT RULES!!!  LOL

excellent!  Very nice! Clap

except for we did a mid tournament alteration earlier on Sunday... for fun's sake.  The Camel/DSO winner is being moved.  The job is to create fun matchups.  I should have changed this earlier but roped myself into  the draw is what it is.  However I think everyone would enjoy seeing ELP v. Camel  rather than ELP go out big time to Gentle Giant and Camel going out big time to Floyd.  No one wins, no ones really has fun. Smile

This is the new Portland bracket.

The Portland Oregon Bracket!!!

Top 2 Seeds. ELP and Pink Floyd

ELP v Strawbs
Camel v. Diablo Swing Orchestra
Gentle Giant v. Mahavishnu Orchestra
Area v. Talk Talk

SBB v. Amon Duul  II
Kansas v. Neu!
Return to Forever v. Radiohead
Pink Floyd v. Mike Oldfield

and... well.. I"m PM'ing you. I have one additional change of which I haven't announced yet regarding what is to come this weekend. I'll PM you about it so you don't have to change the bracket twice. Just hang on the revised bracket until it gets announced. As a matter of fact.. I think you have earned guest analyst of the day for the nice looking bracket if you are available for an online interview tomorrow night.  PS has it on good authority the change will be unveiled tomorrow night on the PS Tournament Show Midweek Edition! A good place to unveil the revised bracket!

I was thinking about that today HT when I should have been thinking about the 2000 Amp switch gear I had my hand in LOL We are getting  the old gang slowly back together.

The one I really do miss though. Assaf.  As far as I know he dropped completely off the radar, FB PA's ... everything.  I need to post in that thread and see if anyone has heard from him. He was the one.. if he recommended an album to you... YOU got it. Clap What a sweetheart as well.  Someone I related to well personally as well as we were both very wounded souls coming out of our patriotic duties. Ouch I really do miss him to the point of saying the circle will not truly be completed again until he came back.
