I would have to agree with you on this and also add the visuals that go with their performence of it from the Gabriel-era especially the Magog sequence.

Smashing Pumpkins's Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness. Not Prog I know but they do have a lot of Prog characteristics and Billy Corgan (lead guitarist and vocals) has always stated that he has been influenced by prog and he's a big Rush fan.

This song is so beautiful because when Gabriel sings "gripped in fright"..it reminds me of the other lyric "kryptonite" which Peter also mentions in this lovely album. Of course I'm talking about "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" and the song is "The Lamia"

The Lamia.. Excellent choice!
Ditto. The Chamber of 32 Doors also contains some PG emotional highlights.

However, I never understood what is so breathtakingly beautiful and amazing about Fripp's guitar playing. Can anyone explain to me what it is about him that everybody loves ?

Well, if everyone were to explain it you still might not understand.  So if you don't like it don't trouble yourself.

But, seriously mention your most beautiful...

From a rock standpoint, the entire Days of Future Passed album from the Moody Blues. Simply mellifluous.
...a vigorous circular motion hitherto unknown to the people of this area, but destined
to take the place of the mud shark in your mythology...

I discovered some fantastic jazz song (Janko Nilovic, Lenny White) from a member in the 1st page of this topic, so I want to introduce other things than prog in my post (of course I love Genesis' Foxtrot, Firth of Fifth, Yes' And You and I, Turn of the Century, Camel's DECCA period, the list goes on). So here are the other most beautiful piece of music I've heard :

You may have heard this from a Buddha Bar album :

The master Steve Hackett : Twice Around the Sun from the Darktown album

Johan Strauss : The Blue Danube

Santana : Samba Pa Ti

and "Song of the wind"

I must also pay tribute to one of my favourite band :

Some other piece of music will probably spring to my mind, if they do, I'll post them later.

Those songs are very beautiful in my opinion!!!!!

I like this list. Throw in Lark's Tongues Pt 1 and it's great.

This kind of music outbraves all Prog by far.
Without it there would be no prog. Love it. Thanks!
