I remember when I heard "Creep" from MTV, I was quite much interested in that band. But some reason never listened whole "Pablo Honey"-album. I think next observation from them were "Paranoid Android"-vid in MTV. I thought in the first minute it was really boring. Anyway listened whole "Ok Cumputer", never understood what people see in it. But, it´s just matter of tastes, Radiohead just is those bands that are not for me.
And problem really isn´t Thom York´s voice, really love it! Have you heard his duet with P J Harvey (absolutely fabulous), it´s here:

Faust: Fresh Air This is their latest album from 2017, it´s almost as great as their first four albums! The greatest piece is ending piece "Fish", it´s really meditative and has so great lyrics! Faust is the band among Magma & VdGG that has keep doing really great music also in 2000`s! Really hope I will have change to see them! Just watched they played concert yesterday in UK, maybe it has been streaming.
New Trolls: Senza Orario, Senza Bandiera Have to say I liked that Le Orme first album much more! This is some kind of mix of Beatles and Italian "schlager" (maybe slightly Moodies & Procol also there). It´s recorded very poorly, vocals are really top and I don´t like singers voice and his some kind opera-style at all! Not sure, should I even try Concerto Grosso (seem to be same singer in it). Music is not bad, but nothing special in it. |
What. You should have listened to the album that AFlowerKC and I both recommended.

That is their first album from 1968. I have been at the moment much more interested in psych rock albums than for example symph prog, that was the reason why I tried that. Also that Le Orme album made year after was really good! I believe I will listen more Le Orme in the future than New Trolls.

In work: V.A. Psychedelic Phinland This is 2CD collection of psychedelic/avantgarde/underground artists of Finland from 1968 to 1974. Artists varies from really almost same kind of "schlager" as that Italian New Trolls-case to very experimental. In Finland there was very little same kind of rock psychedelia as it was in UK and US, I think only examples of that was first album of Blues Section and mostly also Wigwam´s first album. But there were surprisingly many unknown avantgarde artists that made really homesounding records. That just proves the youthmovement of sixties really were in many countries, although in Finland kind of countries it was quite small group and also mostly in the capital of Finland. V.A. Perfectly Good Guitar Instrumentals This is compilation of Finnish instrumental bands of 2000`s. Half of the bands are traditional, Shadows-based "Rautalanka" bands and other half surf instrumental bands. I liked more latter ones that are The Mosriders, the SurfWipes, the Silver Hawks & The Lunatics.
Alsarah and the Nubatones: Manara I picked this great band when they become into a gig in Finland. Sadly wasn´t in that gig, just read about it, but watched then a vid from "Ya Watan" and really loved it! Alsarah is born in Sudan and I think her ancestors were Nubian, where came the name of her band. She´s living now in US, but her bands music is coming from her origins! Really this album has great Nubian groove, great rhythms, but also really great sad, bluesy melodies! Alsarah has really beautiful voice. There is also little electro in this album, but it has used in a very good taste, mostly this sounds really acoustic. This their latest album is from 2016, hope they will soon release new one!
Thinking Fellers Union Local 282: Strangers From the Universe Again M.P! This is great mix of Sonic Youth style punk, Beefheart-style experimental music and country music. In P.A. this is put into R.I.O./Avant, but hard to say do they have anything in common of other bands in that genre, well yes I think there is also some Zappa. Anyway just so great and underrated album!

I remember when I heard "Creep" from MTV, I was quite much interested in that band. But some reason never listened whole "Pablo Honey"-album. I think next observation from them were "Paranoid Android"-vid in MTV. I thought in the first minute it was really boring. Anyway listened whole "Ok Cumputer", never understood what people see in it. But, it´s just matter of tastes, Radiohead just is those bands that are not for me.
And problem really isn´t Thom York´s voice, really love it! Have you heard his duet with P J Harvey (absolutely fabulous), it´s here:

You don't like Steely Dan or Radiohead.. I can't believe this. Well at least you like T. Rex, so that redeems you. Shows that we don't just have completely opposite tastes in music.

Sun Shade - very smooth
The Lobster - also smooth
It's Alright Ma, It's Only Witchcraft - cool rockin tune
One Sure Thing - very good
M.1 Breakdown - Country feel instrumental
I really liked that. Some good 60's folk music there, right on. Good good stuff.

Marc Bolan beats thousands of Radioheads or metallic Dans, that man just has style! No, we really haven´t got opposite tastes in music, I am not sure are you as mad about Beefheart as I, but anyway you really like him! I am not as mad about Zappa & Beatles as you, but I really love Zappa´s sixties stuff and also love almost all Beatles-stuff (although it´s Stones or even more the Who for me in that very biiig question).
Also, you forget I don´t like GG at all. But I believe there are those three big of yours I don´t like, I believe I have really much more my biggies you don´t like at all.
About indie stuff of nineties, do you like at all or have even listened Sonic Youth? Because that´s the biggest 80/90/2000 band to me!

Great you liked it! My fav from that album is "I don´t Know Where I Stand", Judy´s vocals give me always big shivers! I think it´s much better than Joni`s own, later version. Have to say their albums really not weaken from that first, in their second album there is Sandy singing (going to listen it today, just bought it as vinyl)! I think my fav from them is their third "Unhalfbricking", but their five first are all really great, even "Full House", although I think it´s sad Sandy left the band and not so good singing (not bad also) males do the vocal duties in that album.

Fairport Convention: What We Did On Our Holidays I really love Judy Dyble´s voice, but Sandy Denny sounds to me as gentle mother singing to her child! Album starts with her own song "Fotheringay" and it really takes me deep immediately. Already in this album they started to go from US-folk traditions to UK-folk traditions, but there are also still that first one, for example great covers from Dylan´s "Ill Keep It With Mine" and Mitchell´s "Eastern Rain". And really their own "The Lord Is In This Place...How Dreadful Is This Place" sounds really incredibly original Delta-blues. All the way great and really versatile album!
Trumans Water: Spasm Smash XXXOXoX OX & Ass Another great Beefheart/Sonic Youth influenced band from US! But this band goes even more extreme than for example Thinking Fellers. There are really little melodies and vocals are also some kind of bawling or howling (I don´t think there is a right term in English, anyway really little some hc-punk screaming). First song title is "Aroma Of Gina Arnold", just watched that she is a US journalist. Don´t really know are Trumans a fan of her or do they mock her. Beefheart´s Trout is really more easylistening stuff than this double, I believe this band is just too much for many, but I just love their complex madness! Naturally of course as Thinking not rise in the level of Beefhearts´s greatest stuff.

Yeah that's still one of the best albums that I've ever heard in my life. No track is even close to being weak.
Bolan is doing his poetic, melotic thing in tracks like Mystic Lady, Ballrooms of Mars, and especially Spaceball Ricochet. And then just flat rocking out in tracks like Metal Guru, Rock On, Buick Mackane, Telegram Sam, etc. My favorite track for a long time was Baby Strange, but now it's definitely the title track.
This truly is an ALL-TIME great album.

Do you think you can give them a try? If yes, I believe "Goo" could be a good starter. But naturally it could be some hundred albums after that you already have on your list.

We´ll if you listen Trumans Water, I think you will also notice that they´re totally different animals. Also, I think there are also some kind of madness in GG, but to me their madness sounds more kind of clown madness. Trumans madness is more kind of psychotic madness. And have to say I don´t believe I could listen Trumans every day, their music is sometimes too much even me!

Bolan is doing his poetic, melotic thing in tracks like Mystic Lady, Ballrooms of Mars, and especially Spaceball Ricochet. And then just flat rocking out in tracks like Metal Guru, Rock On, Buick Mackane, Telegram Sam, etc. My favorite track for a long time was Baby Strange, but now it's definitely the title track.

I haven´t listened the Slider many times, as not also other T Rex-albums, but what I remembered it, I liked it also quite much!! Sometime ago I listened "My People Were..." again, I think I will soon put "Prophets, Seers & Sages" on. But today first two vinyl albums I just got: Harry Partch Delusion of the Fury and Thinking Fellers Mother Of All Saints.

First song title is "Aroma Of Gina Arnold", just watched that she is a US journalist. Don´t really know are Trumans a fan of her or do they mock her. Beefheart´s Trout is really more easylistening stuff than this double, I believe this band is just too much for many, but I just love their complex madness! Naturally of course as Thinking not rise in the level of Beefhearts´s greatest stuff. |

We´ll if you listen Trumans Water, I think you will also notice that they´re totally different animals. Also, I think there are also some kind of madness in GG, but to me their madness sounds more kind of clown madness. Trumans madness is more kind of psychotic madness. And have to say I don´t believe I could listen Trumans every day, their music is sometimes too much even me! |
It would be too much for me for sure then. I won't even try lol.
