I've been slacking in my listening to music from the past 2-3 years, still catching up with pre-2000 music that passed me by. I want to change that by asking what y'all think is some of the best albums coming out in recent years. Post or link to a YouTube vid (two examples will be fine) and/or Bandcamp/Soundcloud samples of prog from 2010-now that you're into.

The only thing I ask is try and avoid any suggestions for artists in Post Rock/Math Rock and Experimental/Post Metal; being on the Post Rock Team I hear lots of current stuff that could fall into those subs. Otherwise I'm not too picky about what you suggest...I will listen to the samples and report back what I thought (or if I'm already familiar with the music, I'll mention that).

http://glasskites.bandcamp.com/  (Your Own Price)

Glass Kites for me. This debut album hit my Collab Top 10 back in 2012.

Beautiful crossover music with fantastic songwriting.

I reviewed it and gave it a 5*.

Didn't ever bother with making a list of the best 2012 albums once this came out:

This is a very enjoyable marriage of African music and avant rock

Aluk Todolo do have some influence from the post-rock scene, most notably Russian Circles, but take just as much from 2nd wave black metal and the heavier end of Krautrock. They're one of my favourite discoveries in music recently as their entire style and sensibility seems custom built for my tastes without ever feeling like ambition outstrips talent to the extent that is often the case in more experimental music coming from a black metal background. Here's a link to their bandcamp.

Thanks everyone for your replies so far. I'm already familiar with Susanne Sundfor (never heard that album which impressed me more than what I have heard from her), Karnivool, Spock's Beard, Umberto, Secret Chiefs 3, Astra, IQ (haven't heard any of their recent albums), Aranis and Cheer-Accident.

I haven't checked out everything yet but these are what impressed me the most so far: IOEarth, Sunchild, Matt Berry, Jono El Grande (2009 apparently), uKanDanz and Aluk Todolo.

I know of uKanDanz from other PAers but never got around to checking it out. Great stuff. That Ske album I've read a lot of praise for but I have yet to check out yet.

Spock's Beard - X

I'm just now getting back into the Beard and X is an amazing album. Their best (imo) post-Neal Morse work.

Yes yes yes, i definitely second that SKE album DarrylThumbs Up

How about some Vespero? I am a real sucker for 'By The Waters Of Tomorrow' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPN98orhmt0

Have you checked out Guillaume Perret and the Electric Epic? Great new French act with nods to both Zeuhl and modern stuff like dub and metal (without guitar riffs) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Fl8MuVCO4w

shels. I love these guys, and especially their 2011 release Planes of the Purple Buffalo is worth checking out, if one is into melodic post metal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qADn8Z4oVyo

One of my most recent discoveries has been Swedish band Goat. Imagine a modern version of Amon Düül ll and you're not that far off. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aen0yyHX8Nk

I have another good suggestion for pipe organ, but he did say he wasn't interested in post-rock. Embarrassed

Yes the Ske album is great. I happen to know all those suggestions David except Goat which was new to me. Great stuff. I liked the Three Monks sample and the Anna Von Hausswolff album.

Ok. First of all PA's best kept secret, Dreadnaught, is a band I've been raving about for so long. You wanted stuff from the past five years so their last EP is qualified but their two last albums are both masterpieces. This EP is also fantastic but I think it's hard to see the magic at first listen.

And from their 2001 album:

Another recommendation for now is Druckfarben

If didn't already know about it, Coyote by Kayo Dot doesn't have their common metal influence in it but still has their fantastic composition and use of dissonance in a real good way.
