Which Magma do you prefer? This was gonna be Magma vs Magma vs Exmagma(a German band) until I realized there is another German band just called Magma. For the three people who visit this site that have no idea what the French band sounds like:
The German band:
The Argentine band:

I haven't heard the German and Argentinian version (apart from these small clips), but I'm suspect I'd prefer them to the French version, who are absolutely not to my taste.

I've heard bits of the "other" two, but the French Magma takes this one easily

Does anyone know how to say Magma and France in Kobaïan?

I like the German Magma a lot, but the Kobaian Magma iss de hundin.
For me, not many bands would make for good sport when pitted against the mighty Magma (the mighty Magma being the one with Christian Vander if it needs stating). Edited by Logan - November 16 2013 at 19:36 |

I figured the other two would get more votes as not everyone likes the French band.

Yeah, the other two might have got some anti Vander's Magma votes, but of course the other two aren't well-known, not many people check vids out, and probably not that many would check the poll who aren't into Vander's Magma. All three bands are good, but in regards to the first two, I do find that Krautrockers commonly appreciate Zeuhl and Zeuhlists commonly appreciate Krautrock. For that matter, most people I know who like Zeuhl and Krautrock are also into Prog Folk (but especially of the acid folk variety). Interesting, though, that the Argentinian Magma has zero votes, since that would appeal more to those into softer symphonic Prog as well as rather more typical Folk-Rock as my ears hear it.
By the way, about six years ago when I was looking up Magma on youtube I came across this Polish Magma. The title of the song I found was Ainu and I thought that sounded like a very Kobaian title, so was surprised when I heard the music and was not the Magma I was expecting. That said, I guess generically it's not absolutely world's apart (interstellar pun intended) from some of the Vander Magma. |

I love Plat du Jour as well -- one of my favourite bands that we accepted for the Eclectic category while I was still an active member of that team. A jazz band similar sounding to Magma that was recommended to me that has been one of my favourites over the last few years is Gonda Sextet (I know I've mentioned it before -- got vocals that remind me of Magma and Area too).
