Indeed they are an amazing band, some of the most intense climaxes ive
ever heard, and i love how they mix those spooky spoken words into
their songs, good example is near the beginning of Static when the dude
is yelling about seeing the face of god, and dieing, really powerful
stuff.

Without wanting to be rude to the topic starter: I don't like Godspeed you
black emperor! There's no arguing about taste I guess.
I find them tedious and don't find their music well-composed at all. To
me, it just sounds like pretentious, slow noodling in C major,
underpinned by a boring straight beat and with a tremendous amount of
reverbs and delays tossed in. (Sounds like a good description of U2...
hahaha!)
I really like Sigur Ros though, especially the () album... the two bands are
often compared to one another...

GY!BE have been discussed on the boards before, and there are lots of fans on the forums. I really like all the albums so far, but I'd agree that a lot of their music sounds very similar.

The only GYBE CD I have is "Wave your skinny fists" and the first half of the first CD (whatever it's called) is one of the most amazing pieces of music I've ever heard. Starts of quietly then builds up to a climax. Even though it's pretty much based on one chord, it's still amazing.

Absolutely love them. Amazing band.
If you haven't already, I highly recommend checking out Efrim's
side-project A Silver Mt. Zion. The album '"This Is Our Punk Rock,"
thee Rusted Satellites Gather + Sing' is one of the best albums I've heard in
ages.

Great band, as are so many of the others from the Montreal post-rock scene. In fact I like most of the others better than GYBE at this point...

Godspeed You! Black Emperor is my all time favorite band in the world. They always will be. They have the greatest climaxes I have ever heard. The greatest drones and peaks and then when all the noise seems to be structured and have form Godspeed creates chaos and totally destroys the creation and the song is just filled with clashing and crashing and bent noises. I love them. They are my favorite and have influnced me so much.

Really good band. I love the words in their songs like Sleep, Static or BBF3.
They almost sound like a movie soundtrack, especially the depresive F#A#oo; The Dead Flag Blues (Intro) reminds me very much the films about the world war II.

i have only heard some songs by them...to me it sounds like this ever lasting songs that although there are many good riffs there can take a while before there is actually happening something...just like sigur ros they might just drone on forever on the same riff for the last 10 minutes..are all their songs like that? or do they have vocal tracks with more timechanges and stuff?

F# A# is the only album I have, but I love it sooooooo much. And Moya is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

Agreed, Moya is my favourite too from GYBE.
and have you ever noticed that Travis' Love Will Come Through copy the same line guitar from GYBE's Moya?

Great band, amazing music. They have to seen live though. Last saw them in
London about 2 yrs ago. Wish they'd release stuff a bit more often though.
There are plenty of live recording around the net as they encourage personal
taping of their concerts
