Topic: Which Is Mightier - The Pen Or The Sword? Posted: May 20 2005 at 08:41 |
In a barfight, I'd take the sword and even in an examination, I think
the sword would help. I even think the girls might be more impressed
with the sword but in a bank, I think the pen would work out better
(unless you were robbing the bank).

As you wrote, Sigod, it's 3:1 or even 4:0 to the sword. Besides, you can imagine carving your signature with a sword, but can you imagine drawing a pen out of a stone ? Or, for that matter, shoving into the stone first ?

You could also carve it in him with a sword.
I think that makes a more lasting impression

As d the poets sheathes his pen , the soldier lift his sword. - Ian Anderson in TAAB

let's just stay above the moral melee prefer the sink to the gutter keep our sand-castle virtues content to be a doer as well as a thinker, prefer lifting our pen rather than un-sheath our sword

I've always instructed my new staff that proper documentation is of the utmost importance. If it isn't in writing, it never happened. Therefore, I choose the pen. I keep the sword in my trunk, just in case.

^ Wise words there mate.
Please find below a short list of where I find a sword more
useful than a pen:
1. At the 54th International convention of Muggers, Thieves & Downright Nasty
People.
2. Facing Sauron, Lord of The Ring.
3. During a sword swallowing act.
4. Removing a burst appendix (although I would rate the patient’s chances of
survival).
5. Removing a splinter from a finger (but say goodbye to the hand).
6. In a swordfight.

If you can plunge the pen into your opponents eye faster
than he can take a stab at you....
Words can tear you apart.
You could always duck.

to quote sean connery in the Untouchables, "if they put one of your men in the hospital, you put one theirs in the morgue. if they attack you with a pen, you cut their hands off with a sword."
you can't deny it, the big scot hit it on the nose there (probably with a sword as well).

Q.: How can one completely change the meaning of the sentence "The pen is migthier than the sword" by one simple alteration (exchanging, adding or removing a character)?

I think that if the pen is mightier than the sword, than the voice is mightier than the pen.
