One of my favourites is "Wassilissa" by Mother Gong from their album "Fairy Tales". It is a 22:28 track. The other two tracks on that album are shorter than twenty minutes but by no means short (12:41 and 14:38). And all three tracks definitely tell a story; that's what the whole album is about. The two shorter stories are connected, by the way; the hero in both is the same. So one could see them as one story in two parts.

Transatlantic have some of the best epic long tracks ever. Most early Rush albums have long tracks on them and of course they are stunning.

Most early Rush albums? I can only think of side 2 of Caress of Steel, which is really separate songs and Hemispheres, which may be less than 20 minutes.

The Flower Kings - Garden of Dreams (59:57) (But i see it as a number of songs, and it consists of 18 "parts" or songs)
The Flower Kings - Stardust we Are (25:02)
The Flower Kings - I am the Sun (both parts) (25:51)
The Flower Kings - The Truth will set you free (30:40)
The Flower Kings - Devils Playground (24:30)
The Flower Kings - Monsters & Men (21:21)
The Flower Kings - Love is the Only Answer (25:50) (Put together pretty bad. It feels like a shorter epic with some additional song(s) at the end)

while i really love epics, there are a lot of bad ones because they put together random instrumental parts in between verses in order to make their songs longer. either that, or the epics are actually different songs (like Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, which doesn't have any flow between its parts [aka you can tell that they're different tracks]).

in fact, I will also ask for some real epics which don't have cut and paste instrumentals (aka, songs which sound like one complete composition that doesn't sound as though they were running out of ideas).

All TFKs ones mentioned above

They don't all have a story to tell, but they are all quality listens.

Story or not Nine feet underground is the best epic song ever made. And A plague of lighthouse keepers is not far behind and that one even got a story. Tongue

While i really LOVE "Nine Feet Underground", i don't see it as a real "epic", but as a long song with several parts.
Just as Caravan's other long songs, like "With an Ear to the ground you can make it / Martininan / Only Cox / Reprise" and "Can't be long now / Francoise / For Richard / Warlock".
