Topic: Most sing-along-able epics Posted: January 15 2008 at 12:39 |
This is a thread for your favourite sing-along epics from the vast world of prog.
I have three:
1. Supper's Ready - Genesis
2. Van Der Graaf Generator - A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers
3. Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick
I picked the obvious ones, but could you pick some less obvious ones?

Spock's Beard - At The End Of The Day Spock's Beard - The Great Nothing Spock's Beard - The Light
I'm not even that big of a Spock's fan, but you gotta admit Neal knows how to write those "catchy" melodies that get stuck in your head (which is often a negative for me with his music) and are eminently sing a long able.

Echoes by Pink Floyd is really easy to sing along with if you know the lyrics somewhat. And Supper's Ready with Genesis during the Willow Farm is really fun. But I don't listen to the lyrics that much, mostley instruments.

Thick As A Brick, followed by Echoes and possibly Tarkus. Then again, I sing along to pretty much everything, and know the lyrics of about 70% of my collection (the rest is mostly either Yes or newly bought)

1. "Awaken"
2. "Close to the Edge"
3. "Gates of Delirium"
Okay, how about some non-Yes epics!
1. "Karn Evil 9" (ELP)
2. "The Good Don't Last" (Spock's Beard)
3. I'll leave this blank. Some nice blogger could give me a suggestion.

I really enjoy singing the "Down by the river..." part in Close To The Edge.

Magma - De Futura
I actually sing along to this more than any other epic... when no one's around, at least.

As much as I love Gog/Magog, I don't really consider it to be very singable. The first minute perhaps, but after that...

The only thing I'm able to sing along in the Magog-part of Supper is "666 is no longer alone" :) .

i'm not so sure about Plague..., it hurts my voice whenever I try to sing along to that.

Once Around the World - It Bites
This has got to be the happiest "epic" I've ever obnoxiously sang out a car window to a busy Downtown Los Angeles audience!
Russia on Ice - Porcupine Tree
Depressing, but a great three-in-the-morning "I think I might need a cry" sing-a-long song.
