I vote for Dance On A Volcano (but in fact I'd like to see PG singing all).

None, Phil is superb!

but if I had to pick it'd be "Robbery, assault & battery", Peter would have fun with that, similar to "Battle of Epping Forest"

The thing you have to realize is how different the album would have been if
Gabriel was a part of it. He had a lot of input when it came to the bands
musical output (maybe not always musically, but the band wrote around his
lyrics) and the lyrics would have been different and more intricate.

I agree. I wouldn't really want to hear a Gabriel-Genesis album without
Gabriel's musical or lyrical input at all. Than it's not really a Gabriel-era
album.

Lets remember something, Mad Man Moon and A Trick of the Tail were written by Gabriel and Banls for SEBTP, but didn't reached the album, of course the arrangements were altered to fit into Phil's voice.

But if I had to choose one song that fit Peter perfectly it would be Dance in a Volcano, the rest of the album seems made for Phil.

Now if you gave me W&W, there are at least 3 songs that would be much better with Gabriel; Eleventh Earl, One for the Vine and All in a Mouse Night.

I enjoy Phil's singing on all of the tracks.
But if Peter would sing on one of the tracks I'd choose "Robbery, Assault & Battery".
There's a lot of dialog and speech-like singing in the song and Peter's an expert in characterisations.
I think it would come out something like "The Battle of Epping Forest".

I think I'm copying NetsNJFan's words here

I agree about the W&W... but I chose ATOTT since it was the first work after Gabriel's exit. I bought ATOTT in 1975 and at that time comparisons were unavoidable.

The music of ATotT, WW, and ATTW3 is perfect for Phil's voice.  I wouldn't want anyone else singing on any of these albums...but if Pete had to sing one, he would probably be best served for "Robbery, Assault, and Battery", so I agree with Deliriumist. And as Ivan said, PG could also have sung "Eleventh Earl of Mar" (but at this point in PG's career, 1977, Phil sounded more like Peter than Peter did...his voice had lost its trademark raspiness)

About Wind and Wuthering - I think it wouldn't have mattered very much wich one had sung on it.
I never knew that it was Phil singing until I was told so.
I even got into an argument about the singer as I was certain it was Peter.
I'm glad I didn't make a bet on in it though.

This album is PERFECT!!! And Phil have a great participation on his development !!!

The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is not so good, because... Peter Gabriel and his ideas out of Prog Rock !!!

This album is Prog Rock because the absence of Mr. Gabriel !!!

I voted 'none'. I don't see how this album could ever be topped- it's a perfect prog album to these ears that I wouldn't change anything about. Phil Collins did the impossible by replacing the seemingly irreplacable Gabriel.

How come he gets no writing credit then?

I can't imagine Peter singing on this album. Somehow it seems to be good for Collins.

Collins' vocals are perfect, even though two songs were co-written
by gabriel (are you sure about this point, ivan? I remember reading
in Armando Gallo's books that banks had written atott many years
before the recording, maybe even 6 or 7, and I don't remember any
collaoration from gabriel - maybe it's just my memory, can you give
more information on this topic? thanks!)
