This is a prog instrumental song that I can only describe as having a jungle theme -- synth birds, toads, and other creatures fade in before the "music" begins with synth bongos, followed by a repetitive hook. The song crescendos into an upbeat and hopeful full orchestration of sound before slowly fading away, one instrument at a time, until you just hear the quiet "jungle" creatures again.
My older brother created the now-lost mix tape in the early 80s but doesn't remember from what album or artist this song was lifted. I've done my best to replicate it here: This search has been haunting me for decades! Hopefully someone here can help

No to either. King Crimson was also on the list of possibilities tho as far as style. The one I'm looking for is even more "produced" sounding, with a repetitive hook. Thanks! |

I had some hopes with this one... thinking my brother could've recorded just a section of a much longer piece. The song I'm desperate to find is much shorter - perhaps only 5-7 min - with a distinct beginning, middle, and end. Thanks!

It may be something from Kitaro, but it's a very prolific author

Jethro Tull's 'Bungle in the Jungle' fits the opening animal sounds, has a catchy hook, and was released in 1974 but didn't get widespread airplay until late 70s/early 80s--- but does not fit the rhythms of your vocaroo description. Good luck.

^ The video works for me, and from around the 2:26 mark until 8:35 it sounds exactly like what the original poster is describing in his vocaroo link. The same bongos rhythm begins again at around the 11:56 mark, so he may have only had a small portion of the track on his original mix tape.
Props to Richardh for finding this! The phrase 'needle in a haystack' came to mind when I first saw this post, but I reckon he's cracked it with this suggestion.
