Topic: Rush: Feedback Posted: September 21 2005 at 06:47 |
I'm on my first listen to this extended EP covers set by Rush, of material from the late 60's, which inspired them.....
....what do you lot think? Am I the only one who finds that I actually like it?
I always thought I was rather discerning in my choice of music, which is why I was reluctant to purchase this until I found it unwanted for £3....but I'm beginning to think that these boys could do a tribute album of Country & Western hits which I'd enjoy....

I'm with you Fandango, I really like it to! Even the songs I've never heard of before! Its a shame they didn't do it at other periods in their history though. Imagine a 70's Rush take on covers!

This CD seems to be misunderstood by a lot of people, as I've seen it sl*gged off quite a lot on this site. It's basically a kind of side project where the guys got together to play a load of covers that they used to play at the start of their career. If you view it that way instead of as the follow up to Vapor Trails then it's not a bad album at all.

oh, i agree with you chopper....as such, the material is from another era, but the guys seem to make it sound alive and fresh...all in all, it's a great tribute...hats off to them

Isn't it a bit long for an EP? In my day, an EP had 4 tracks. Maybe we should call it an SCD (Short Compact Disc) or LTFMILCD (Less Than Forty Minutes In Length CD)?

Well I've had this argument before here as I believed the same as you. But consider this, Dream Theaters Change Of Seasons is an EP (according to the official wesite too!!) and thats about an hour long isn't it?
Consisder this anyway. Feedback is not officially a follow up album to VT.

while we are on the 'length' issue, I have a copy of Arena's The Cry/ Contagious/ Contagium 3 Eps on 1 CD collection here.... The first has 10 tracks on 35 mins(ish) of music, the second has 4 tracks and the third 3 tracks...the first one is longer than the last two put together...go figure...

Love it. Eight tracks of pure fun. I enjoy it even more than some of their regular studio albums (and I'm a Rush fan!). Wouldn't complain if their next regular album was in the same vein.

A Change of Seasons is actually longer than When Dream and Day Unite
and Images and Words. I think it was given the EP status because
it was neither a studio album nor a live album, but I feel that it's
too long to be considered an EP. It also costs as much as a
proper album, and I was under the impression that EPs were supposed to
be cheaper.

when it was initially released in this country, it was done so on a special 'mid range' price...that doesn't seam to be reflected these days, as all the earlier DT albums are in the mid price range.

While I agree with you, the record company obviously doesn't. If it was to be included as an "album", that would make Octovarium the ninth album, thus making a nonsense of the title...

^^^excuse me, I'm trying to get people's views on 'Feedback' here, not debating how long an EP should be! Go start your own thread entitled 'EP or not EP?!
