Topic: 13 versus The Devil You Know Posted: October 29 2016 at 16:19 |
The second versions of two different line ups make the last album of either line up of both bands that are not one and the same, or are they? I think Pete Frame (the rock family tree guy) would diagrammatically explain that better than me.
Anyway.
I suppose the easy thing is to plump for both and move on to the next poll and post. Not so easy.
If you had 20 groats only and had to buy one or the other - whether you've heard 'em first doesn't matter you have a pretty good idea what's in store for you.

Both are great, but I personally prefer 13.

great poll, tough choice, I need to listen to these two a bit. It's been a while.
Another great album from Iommi was Fused in 2005, his third collaboration with Glenn Hughes.

Easily The Devil You Know, for me. I should give 13 another (probably only my second?) listen, though.

13 was a very good album - at least, for a band which previous records were... controversial, but The Devil You Know stroke me harder. Of course, I may be somewhat biased because the death of Ronnie James Dio really saddened me and the emotions involved in this story may prevent me from having a more rational artistic judgement.

It's not an easy choice. I might make up my mind one day. The only thing I would say that could improve The Devil You Know is a track that is more climactic and finishes the album more effectively. 13's revisit of the first 3 albums is unsurprising but I'd have liked a lit more, well, progression instead.
If only I'd put a "both" option there. It would make this so much easier.
