ECCENTRIC ORBIT and UT GRET at PROGDAY 2015!

ProgDay is pleased to announce our first two bands for 2015.

ECCENTRIC ORBIT:
is an energetic instrumental symphonic rock quartet that focuses heavily on vintage keyboard sounds mixed with modern synthesizers, and flavored with the vibes of classic Sci-Fi films.  The band’s two highly-acclaimed albums have been compared to ELP, Ars Nova, King Crimson, Deja Vu, Gerard and Genesis, but the band’s diverse keyboard use combined with the impressive work of bassist/founder Bill Noland has led to the band cultivating it’s own sound.  While the music feels familiar on the surface, underneath it’s fresh and new.

UT GRET:
formed in the early 1980s, describes itself as a pan-idiomatic musical ensemble from Louisville, Kentucky. The band’s list of influences includes names like Stravinsky, John Coltrane, Soft Machine and Hatfield & The North, and the music embraces rock, jazz, world music, classical music and the avant-garde. In addition to the standard rock instrumentation, you will also find bouzouki, mandolin, bass clarinet, sitar, bassoon, and more. Over the course of 4 albums UT GRET has managed to create a unique musical footprint that mixes accomplished performances with complexity and unexpected compositional/arrangement choices, yet manages to be accessible in a way that few related bands are usually able to achieve.

ProgDay is the longest running progressive rock festival in the world.  ProgDay 2015 will take place on Saturday, September 5th, and Sunday, September 6th, at Storybook Farm in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  For more information, and to hear music from this year's bands, please visit us at www.progday.net.

Thanks!

Michael

Thank you micky! I learned about the wonderful world of prog just last year and it sparked my interest in music ten-fold.  I read about ProgDay and knew I had to go as I only live about an hour and half away!

Unfortunately (or fortunatelyWink), ProgDay does not have a big budget, and a band like Three Friends would be way too expensive for the organizers. However, as the saying goes, small is beautiful, and in the past few years ProgDay has become a showcase for the best the modern prog scene has to offer - especially as regards US bands. Anyway, hope to see you thereSmile! I guarantee you'll have a blast.

yeah.. not that far.

Progday does reserve a bunch of hotel rooms if you decide to come and want to stay the night.. and if you drive... the shows don't go past dark (noise for local home owners) so you wouldn't be on the road too late.

Let us know if you can make it and we'll get together. We (Raff and I)  are easy to find LOL

Ut Gret are a TERRIFIC pick. I bought them on a whim last year when Raff mentioned them off the cuff and they blew me away. I looking forward to Eccentric Orbit being a pleasant surprise. :)

JACK O’ THE CLOCK AT PROGDAY 2015!

"Jack O’ The Clock just seem to go from strength to strength, one of the most original and compelling groups I know playing some amazing compositions that seem to tread effortlessly between Van Dyke Parks and folk music from an as yet unidentified culture, while making all the things you've always thought of as difficult sound as effortless and natural as breathing.” - FRED FRITH

JACK O’ THE CLOCK is a San Francisco area quintet that released its first album in 2008. Now, with four albums of original music, the band’s unique blend of Americana, progressive rock and the avant continues to defy easy characterization. While the basic instrumentation is inherently folk in nature, the final result, with it’s chamber orchestra leanings, jazz details, intense storytelling, and a dollop of surrealism, creates a sonic landscape which is really like nothing else. …Or as one reviewer stated, “JACK O’ THE CLOCK is what you get when you put together After Crying, Frank Zappa, Donovan, The Beatles and Indie Pop.” Whatever your description, at its best the music is eloquent and beautiful, and always interesting and engaging.

JACK O’ THE CLOCK joins ECCENTRIC ORBIT and UT GRET at ProgDay, the longest running progressive rock festival in the world.  ProgDay 2015 will take place on Saturday, September 5th, and Sunday, September 6th, at Storybook Farm in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  For more information, and to hear music from this year's bands, please visit us at www.progday.net.

Thanks!

Michael
