Aside from the excruciating Teakbois, a highly enjoyable album, which sold well, and was a joy to see live.
The real shame about this was the forced "union" of Yes for the follow up by the record company suits, and Anderson's inexplicable decision to back Elias in his reduction of Wakeman's keys to virtual silence on said sequal.
Pity, because this could have been huge. Having said that, I thought Talk was a work of genius, so what do I know?

Great album in parts, but Teakbois and the closer track is awful IMO. Songs like Birthright simply incredible. But give me a ' Yes" album anyday, Big Generator, Talk and even Union I prefer to ABWH

One of my favorite 'non Yes' albums. What's your take on ABWH?
Great Yes-but-not-Yes album. The concert was great, too, but anytime I can see Wakey wail like a mutha is a good time.
Highlights: "Themes," "Brother of Mine," "Fist of Fire," "Birthright"
The only "bad" song really is "Teakbois," which is really more silly than bad. It scared the sh*t of us when during the concert, Anderson went "Do you want to dance?" We went Please...no!

I haven't heard it in a long time. I remember liking it and playing it a lot, and remember "Brother of Mine" playing on the radio quite a bit. Yes was still commercially hot at the time, so the album was a fairly big deal. The main thing I remember is a buttload of keyboards in the mix.

The album is good, though uneven, and I think it has not aged very well. However, I saw AWBH play in Rome when they toured to support the album, and they really delivered the goods on stage. I'll always remember someone in the audience shouting "You octopus!" during Bruford's drum solo.

Very nice album indeed... easily better than Big Generator. I mainly love Birthright. Fist of Fire is also very enjoyable... and Brother of Mine is rather frustrating, the first half is really wonderful (the first to parts), but the last one is rather annoying.

It's good but the snare sound spoils it a bit for me. Also "Teakbois" is the worst thing that "Yes" ever recorded.
Count me in - another non-fan of Teakbois, although someone here at PA related an amusing story behind it which put it into context more clearly, and my 'hate-level' for it dropped by a smidge

I'm also among the ones who like it, except Teakbois. The tour was great but a bit too much relying on the solos, even if Bruford's solo with the South Side Of The Sky bits was great, playing his Simmons electronic drums standing up . But I have to say that along the years my appreciation for it has dropped a bit.
BTW for those who may not know, the track Birthright was actually written by Howe for GTR and can be heard in the bootleg "Nerotrend, the unreleased 2nd GTR album" with the name "This World's Big Enough". Anderson would change the lyrics into the opposite "this world ain't big enough". The track appears also in Yes, Relatives and Frieds and Howe's solo album Homebrew with the name Red and White so it has appeared with at least 3 different names.

I haven't listened to ABWH for a long time. However I remember I didn't like it very much, I think it was a bit boring. The songs I like the most are Quartet (very pretty melodies) and Order of the Universe. I also like Fist of Fire because it is so bombastic. Birthright is good too. The other songs never clicked, so I think it's just a nice album and nothing more. It has some great melodies, but that's it, in my opinion.
