The Wall, Lamb, and A Passion Play are the concept albums that do it for me.

"Operation: Mindcrime" is the definitive metal concept album.  Tight, focused songs, powerful and precise performances, and a gritty story.

"Scenes" is typical DT rubbish... derivative, schmaltzy, hare-brained, masturbatory, etc.

I never really thought of any Kraut rock stuff like that but Epsilon in Malaysian Pale[Edger Froese] is probably a Concept album?

The Gong trilogy could be a three part concept i suppose. After all it's a story in three parts!

'Flying teapot'.'Angels egg'.'You'.

not a lot to say about that really.

Gong prior to Shamal was great..

I actually Love both concepts and have both DVD's, but Operation Mindcrime is classic!!

Labrie simply can't hang with Geoff Tate!

For my money though it's Misplaced Childhood!

The Magician's Birthday by Uriah Heep is a great pseudo-concept album. Ken Hensely said that the whole concept wasn't really finished, but it's still one of my favourites all the same!

Actually, we need some Uriah Heep mp3s in the archives. Maybe I should send some!
And Jesus said unto John, "come forth and receive eternal life..."
Unfortunately, John came fifth and was stuck with a toaster.

The Lamb for me! Since it's the best album period, it has to be the best concept album.

Yes, Iván. The Lamb, The Wall, and Quadrophenia are in a major league compared to the two mentioned.

Does anyone think that such albums as Tangerine dream 'Rubycon' & 'Pheadra' could be though of as concept albums.

They kinda tell a story in an Electronic field...

More noticeable with Edgar Froese & Klause Shulze early offerings.

I agree with that, but that's more an excuse for a bunch of songs than a true concept album. There's no overarching theme or story to it.

For me, one of the greatest concept albums of all time is the criminally underrated "Captain Lockheed & the Starfighters" by Robert Calvert. Not really prog, mayhaps, but a damn fine fusion of great songs, captivating story and hilarious comedy - the result is something funny, tragic and infuriatingly catchy. I just wish someone else could've heard of it. *sighs*

OPERATION: MINDCRIME

In my top 5 favorite metal albums of all-time.

Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From a Memory is great, but at times too derivative.

Peace & take care

Im sure CTTE is not a concept album for one simple reason, Close to the Edge, And You  and I and Siberian Khatru are three songe with no relation in the lyrics, a concept album is like a book and the songs are like chapters (Except in One song concept albums like Thick as a Brick), this is not the case of CTTE, as simple as that.

Quote What about Jesus Christ Superstar, Tommy and A Passion Play?

Good question Emperor, both are amomg my favorites but there's not room enough to list all the great concept albums, and in the case of Tommy and Jesus Christ Superstar I tried to avoid Rock Operas, because IMO they belong to a slightly different genre that includes mostly dialogues instead of lyrics.
