Amazing news (or perhaps not) Marillion have jumped straight into No 7 position in the official UK singles chart this week. Steve Hogarth was interviewed by the BBC Radio 4 art programme "Front Row" last night because of this surprise entry. Hogarth reminded us that the charts in the UK are based on such low sales figures, so by Marillion asking their UK fans through their website to go buy the record (I believe there are three variants of the record available) they achieved this feat. LOL. Hogarth also reminded us of the irrelevancy of the UK top ten and the irrelevancy of many modern (and instantly forgettable) acts manufactured and manipulated by the record industry in the charts normally. He criticised the policy of playlists and the few people who control them in music radio. Hurray for some truth and sanity - the band have gone up several notches in my estimation.

Great news, indeed. Something is happening, without a doubt, in the music biz. Prog bands are popping up left and right. The advent of XM radio. Internet music stations. All these things are wearing down the record companies. Maybe this genre's not as "underground" as we thought? The walls on which the critics wrote is cracking. |

I'm not a Marillion fan, but my respect for them is also growing fast. Not only this really great critics by Hogarth, but also some clever words by ex-frontman Fish in the Madrid concert about the Mach 11 terrorist attack and the war (I wasn't there, but a friend not only told me, he actually called me and I listened a bit)
