Question#2. "The Sixteen men of Tain" is printed on the bottom of every bottle of Glenmorangie single malt whiskey. One of Allan's favorite libations. Second half of #2 is "Soma" (darned thing cost me of $30.00). I've heard that the second outing from the same group may be released (the  neverwasneverwillbe project).

 

Question #4. Allan played with Hugh Hopper on the Soft Works album. I heard a bootleg of Allan kicking Van Halen's arse in a shred-fest, but I don't think they ever recorded anything together. I have nearly everything Allan's played on and I don't recall any of those persons on anything AH played on. Maybe with Donovan?   

I thought Gnarly Geezer was over-and-out?

The Satriani answer is correct -IMHO Radio Free is probably the worst track both guitarists have played on - although a lot of Level 42 "Guaranteed" comes close for AH (but the problem here is he is mixed so far back you can rarely hear him). Satriani is a great AH fan, and you can find a long interview he made with Holdsworth in one of the US guitar specialist magazines. In passing AH's replacement in Level 42, Jakko is worth following up  - 21st Schizoid Band, and the essential 64 Spoons (check on the compilation CD "Landing On A Rat Column") - made the mistake of forming a jazz rock band at the height the punk period......

personally you're find the folks there very friendly, rarely get stupidly mad, offer opinions and accept others' opinions. Best of all I have discovered a wealth of excellent albums,  jazz rock and prog, which otherwise I would have completely missed. In fact another best of all, there are many pro musicians who subscribe and occasionally write.

there are still a bunch of unanswered TRIVIA QUESTIONS here.

Yes on Jack Bruce's "Question Of Time", track "Obsession" - my favourite AH solo, oddly in a blues setting - almost say AH deputises for EC with Cream?

 

I should have known that one. Great album and "yes" it is one of my favorite AH solos ever.

I believe there have been a few, but all pale in comparison. I heard Bruford's Earthworks have released a new "live" CD featuring a few Bruford tunes with horns playing Allan's spots. Could be interesting.

And "YES" to the first part of your last post. A compilation of the "one-offs" would be great. I've made my own. The only discs I'm missing from my collection are a few of those releases. Some aren't available on CD either.   

By my last count, I had about 33 releases with Allan playing on at least one track, as well as his solo stuff. I have two copies of the "16MOT."  One Autographed!!!

Funny thing, I've NEVER seen him play "live"...... yet. He doesn't seem to play in northern California. I'm waiting for him to play Yoshi's in Oakland. About two hours from home.
