   Just finished watching one of the best TV programmes talking/showing
music close to my heart; BBC 4's second episode of Jazz Britannia,
covering the development of Brtiish jazz from 1960 to 1980. Jazz rock
fusion was brought in and dealt with in a balance and in a
proportionate way. Best of all footage of Graham Bond Organisation,
Julie Driscoll & Brian Auger's Trinity, early Soft Machine, Floyd,
Nucleus, Cream, Hendrix, Miles Davis (with Dave Holland in the line
up), Nucleus, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Colosseum and Centipede plus modern
day comments from Jack Bruce, John McLaughlin, John Surman, Georgie
Fame, Jon Hiseman, John Marshall, Keith Tippett, Julie Tippetts (ne
Driscoll), Ian Carr, Dave Holland - etc. A really great way to finish a
Friday night's viewing - probably repeated tomorrow and again in a few
months.

	Great insight from Jack Bruce on that Jazz Britannia part 2 programme, discussing why young British jazz musicians readily turned to rock and pop: 1. Big audiences. 2. "With Cream I and Ginger could play free jazz as a rhythm section, while Eric (Clapton) played the Ornette Coleman role. However, we didn't tell Eric that!"
