I haven't see this poll in the forum, I suggest the first names that cames into my mind and only one for the 6 major bands imho, i'm pretty sure that there are another 500 names that could be on the list, but for that I put a choice...
Please forgive me for my crappy english!

Of course Zappa is the one... but I voted for Fripp. I'm in a Frippious mood.

I voted for Keith Emerson. For only a three-piece, he provided much of the music in the band. They were also one of the more popular progressive rock bands. This makes him, in my eyes, the best artist in prog rock.

Rick Wakeman....The guy provided Yes with the composing, harmony the others couldnt find. Plus a HUGE discography at the solo career...

Have to go with Fripp.  Who on this list has stayed as innovative as Fripp?  Fripp refuses to let his music get stale and become a dinosaur, I can’t say the same for the rest except maybe Gabriel.

I didn't see Peart, Lifeson or Lee on that list .

I'd say Zappa obviously takes it but since he wasn't there I voted that you were on crack

Syd Barret? He never released a single progressive rock note, he was a purely psychedelic artist, Pink Floyd evolved to prog' with Dave Gilmour and Roger Waters.

I agree Video_Vertigo, the poll maker is in crack.

Depends what you mean by important in this context. Influential? Sold the most albums? Defined the genre??

Gabriel gets my vote for being a quintessential English prog rock star, and defining a genre that was forged in England. But I would say that, I'm more of a Genesis fan than a Yes, KC, ELP or JT fan..

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!
