Hi all,
My first post in this forum.

I have seen similar posts when searching for anekdoten in this forum. I am searching for bands that have a similar atmosphere. The thing is, I'm not really bound by genre, as I'm a big fun of KC, PFM, Landberk, various krautrock bands but then also opeth/agalloch/katatonia/enslaved and various post bands. Generally, I enjoy the moody atmosphere and melancholy and I hate flashy theatrics, especially originating from keyboards, if that makes sense. I've been following progarchives for years but I guess it was high time to start getting more involved in forums :) . I appreciate any suggestions

Hello and welcome to PA. i do love lots of melancholic and atmospheric music myself. For an Anekdoten related act, Morte Macabre's Symphonic Holocaust is superb.

And of course there is lot of melancholic, atmospheric music in pst-rock and Godspeed You! Black Emperor is superb. I especially like the albums Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven! and F♯A♯∞, superb, as well as Yanqui U.X.O.



then I like the the melancholic atmospheric stuff like Radiohead with various albums and Swans has music that fits.

Heh, I didn't want to write a full essay as my first post, but yeah, I know everything anekdoten/landberk related. I'm familiar with godspeed you, but I haven't given them a big chance. Maybe I'll try them again! Thanks a lot!

I would propose After Crying as a point of reference from the Hungarian musical environment. They have a proven capability to create highly atmospheric and suggestive soundscapes. Their discography displays an overwhelming range of styles, proof of an abundant heritage of influence and artistic exploration. 
Most characteristically, such tracks as this 22-minute-long A Gadarai Megszállott (The Fanatic of Gadarai) from their 1992 album Megalázottak És Megszomorítottak best represent their own style of artistry with a hauntingly lovely but sad quality, where the soothing mood is complemented by the cello-violin interplay, supported by brooding keyboards and guitars, which together create a unique aural experience.
