It's funny to think that in my 20 years at this site, and I have liked to think of myself as a fairly creative person (used to be at least, I think), a bunch of album lists is probably my most significant contribution to PA, the culmination of those years "work" and my magnum opuses.
I like making lists and discovering new-to-me albums and I do like seeing others lists and comparing those. And I like the quest of synergy with others, even if in fairly inconsequential ways. I'm an introvert who likes certain kind of interactions with others, and hopefully to life and inspire each others, even if just involve coming together sharing our likes and commenting on each others likes that brings some sort of affirmation at times... But I ramble again. Can't express it right.
Mike's AwesomeProg site, especially in combination with the Prog Archives yearly charts, rateyourmusic yearly charts can make annual list-making pretty easy as long as you recognise the names and remember the music. I do have a good memory for such things because of my activities in my time at PA, and because I do have a pretty uninteresting life. I kind of live vicariously though my wife and kids.
Anyway, once you start adding albums to his lists/poll at Awesomeprog, it gives you recommendations that are deemed similar and you might already know, plus one can see what is in for that year. I do end up adding a considerable number of artists and album to his site when making lists that were not on his site. My lists that I draw the most on I made just over the past few years, especially because I did topics where I made many playlists with tracks per year. It was a way of going through loved-by-me albums and choosing a track off each album I decided to highlight to share and revisit in playlist form. That did help to deepen my appreciation for the albums and was my favourite activity in my years at PA. And being a Collab, I would take part in the "Album of the Year" events, but not for every year (my first was for 2005).
I hope that all of my lists are works in progress, and my particular music interests/ passions do change. Over the past while, Sufjan Stevens (who I would say is prog related or adjacent at least) has been a particular favourite of mine. I remember in my early years here that the kids would talk about him quite a bit but it would be years before I dove into his music. Joanna Newson is another that was very popular with some in my early years here, but she I got to know rather better at the time.
