A-Z of Space Rock
THE 4 LEVELS OF EXISTENCE The 4 Levels of Existence only existed just long enough to produce one album, recorded in about ten hours and released on an obscure underground label, but that's the stuff of which prog legends are made. The album is a tasty Greek salad of Psychedelic Rock, spiced up with a light sprinkling of feta cheese. The lyrics are all in Greek, but that's part of its endearing charm. In spiritual tradition, the name of the band and eponymous album is a reference to the four Sanskrit levels of human existence. Namely, the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies. To improve physical well-being, you could try walking, stretching, massage, yoga, running, dancing or swimming. Or alternatively, if that all sounds like too much hard work and you want to save a lot of time and effort, why not just listen to the album instead. It'll only take 35 minutes of your time and you don't even need to take any vitamin supplements. ![]() ![]() |

The ever-expanding Space Rock universe is filled with billions and billions of stars and galaxies, all moving immutably through the interstellar stuff, and should I ever manage to explore the entire Space Rock universe (very unlikely in one lifetime), then I'll eventually arrive back at my starting point. Meanwhile, in the real universe, Riemannian geometry posits that four-dimensional spacetime is curved, meaning the universe is finite in volume, but at the same time endless with no boundary beyond which you cannot go. For instance, if a space traveller were to travel billions and billions of light years through the four-dimensional universe (again unlikely) they would eventually arrive back at their starting point from the direction opposite to that in which they set out, just as a spacecraft travelling at 17,500 m.p.h. in orbit around planet Earth in three dimensions arrives back at its starting point every 90 minutes. Here's Professor Carl Sagan (Johnny Carson) to explain more. ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - Yesterday at 08:00 |

I have listened to Far East Family Band and appreciated their
sound in the past. I was just browsing Ash Ra Tempel and turns out I
have not listened to their debut!. It's rated number #2 on this site
under the Krautrock genre still it has overlooked me till now. Carl
Sagan's Cosmos was brilliant and IMO, better than the modern remake. I
think he said in it that all wars in history have been fought for a
piece of land on this tiny grain and then showed it on the screen. I
wasn't aware of this satirical take on him :p.

Talking of the Far East Family Band, the related Far Out Nihonjin album is one of my all-time favourite Space Rock albums, regardless of the uninspiring album cover. ![]() |

A-Z of Space Rock
ALGARNAS TRADGARD A Swedish Krautrock band held in high regard, being at the vanguard of the "Kraut School" of Scandinavian Space Rock. Algarnas Tradgard's tripped-out tribute to hallucinogenic hippiedom is more exotic than a spicy curry cooked up by Madhur Jaffrey. The release of their long-awaited second album was Delayed by 27 years, hence the title. ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - 10 hours 15 minutes ago at 03:53 |
