My memories of the Canterbury scene:
- My first 'Canterbury' album was probably 'The Rotter's Club', bought on release in 75 as a 13 year old after hearing something off it on the Alan Freeman Show.
- Read Steve Hillage mention 'Canterbury Fuzz Organ' in an interview when he became temporary leader of Gong in 75.  Until then, I didn't realise Canterbury was a 'scene'.
- First 'Canterbury' gig - Steve Hillage supported by National Health at Leicester University, 1978.  If you include Henry Cow, then I had already seen them twice by then (in 77).
- Lucky to see the Canterbury 'supergroup', In Cahoots in Nottingham, in 1984 (Pyle, R. Sinclair, Miller, Dean and Lemer)
- Attended Caravan 'reunion' at Central TV, Nottingham, in 1990 (we all know the video)
- Saw another Canterbury supergroup, Going Going (Hopper/R. Sinclair/Ward/Hewins), this time at Brixton Fridge supporting Gong Maison, in 1991.
- Also in 1991, finally got to see Kevin Ayers in London (first of three occasions)
- More recently, the current Soft Machine (in 2019 I was lucky to see them with the late John Marshall and Roy Babbington)

Canterbury musician I have seen the most:  Richard Sinclair

^ My first Canterbury Scene album was Caravan's debut, purchased on CD from FOPP in Nottingham sometime around 2010/11/12, although I had no idea it was Canterbury Scene music until joining ProgArchives. Embarrassed

^ I was in there the other day with the kids.  Hatfields and Henry Cow were my first Canterbury heroes but I can remember where, when and who I was with when I first heard that Caravan debut album - in Nottingham.

I wish FOPP was still there, having bought most of my CD's from FOPP in the past. It was Nottingham's last independent record store, even after HMV took them over. Smile
