Last year I "stumbled" upon Magellan's "Hour of Restoration" by pure chance, and absolutely loved It. So much It has become my favorite band since, specially their first two albums [but their entire discography is great]. Now I'm digging into Trent Gardner's Explorer's Club and Leonardo. Can anyone recommend me more bands in this style of prog [symphonic/epic feel with vocal harmonies and great, dramatic melodies]?

they seem to have been influenced by Kansas, so try Proto-Kaw if you don't know them.. I'd second Presto Ballet.

Thanks for the replies! I can definitely hear the Kansas influence in their sound after I listened to Kansas' albums more carefully.
Also Presto Ballet is amazing. I'm loving It so far. That's the exact style of prog that can make my day, guys.

slightly more obviously, you might also try Enchant (start with Break), Tiles (Fence The Clear) and Cairo (Conflict and Dreams)
there are other non American bands from the same era who played a similar 'heavy prog'... try Poverty's No Crime for instance...

@shinjuku_n And, if you're keen on slightly heavier contemporary prog rock, try The Warrior's Spell by Tarot. |

Loved all of these, specially Cairo. This band has an amazing prog vibe going on here. ![]()
All three bands are great on their own. I didn't know these bands yet so thanks a lot!

Check out Dilemma's album from last year called The Purpose Paradox. They are a band from the Netherlands and the album features a nice guest appearance from Derek Sherinian as well as brilliant US guitarist Mark Lettieri who is perhaps more known for fusion.
Also another band from the Netherlands coming back after a long hiatus was Mangrove. I am enjoying their album (again from last year) called Bridge To Fiction. Probably my favourite symphonic prog album from last year (although I don't think it was a great year for new symph prog style music)

^Yeah, Mangrove is a great. They were a bit in the mid 70s Genesis direction. I have their latest but haven't played it yet.
Speaking of a band with the word "dilemma" in their name there was also Dali's Dilemma who is worth checking out and maybe also Ice Age and Shadow Gallery. These are all from the 90s like Magellan. From a little bit later there was Under the Sun.

Listened to the first Salem Hill album and It really rocks. It has some touches of AOR, really really great. I'll listen to the remaining albums later. ![]() Dilemma is nice and Derek is playing great as usual. Now for Mangrove: It has the 70's Genesis spirit all over. They really know how to capture that early Genesis feel. It's amazing. Thanks, guys!

Have you heard the last few by Karfagen? They are considered symph prog also and pretty highly rated on here (more so than mangrove but that could be partly because of more ratings).

Mimi's Magic Moment is a real killer imo. The only other one I have by them is Pennies from the karmic jar (the follow up) which is good but MMM is on another level.

yes, I've listened to MMM last night and It sounds amazing. Really great band that I haven't listened Salem Hill until now. Thanks! ![]()
Tollheit sounds amazing! The sound definitely reminded me of Magellan. The singer sounds a bit like Michael Sadler from Saga, with a slightly lower register. Much appreciated!
