Gilmour's album won prog magazine album of the year yet has been largely shunned by PA listeners it seems. A view I hear echoed generally is that 2024 was a year that ran deep for good releases but the quality at the top was below that of the previous year. I tend to agree.

OK, I will try to block the w-e to come up with an order in my list (whih is now closed) and hopefully I'll manage to achieve that for monday at the latest, but I'm still unable to build list with AP, so it'll be a word list published in this thread.
I'm not even sure I'll want to make separate "rock" and "jazz" lists ohave time for it.

not that my list will change much what's coming in the cumlulative ranking, so it doesn't matter whether it will taken into account to set it up.
let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

I have to be drawn back to an album after a first listen in order for it to earn my devoted/undivided attention for the creation of a review. With over 100 albums listened to from 2024, only about 60 earned reviews.

I don't know what you mean by S or A tier. I grade my albums on a 10-point scale (divide by 2 to get Prog Archives 5-star scale):
Albums 1-4 are between 9.00 and 10 (masterpiece)
Albums 5-17 are between 8.50 and 8.99 (just under a masterpiece)
Albums 18-40 are between 8.00 and 8.49 (great album)
Albums 41-59 are between 7.50 and 7.99 (very good album)
Albums 60-63 are between 7.00 and 7.49 (good album, but not likely to listen to very often)

I didn't enter anything under 7.00 (which would be poor to OK)

Yes, thanks! I always find it interesting to see how people rate things. At AP we settled for a slightly more generous scale, 9.x/10 would be S-tier (stellar), 8.x is the A-tier (awesome), 7.x is B-tier (great) and 6.x is C-tier ("only" good). You're welcome to rate/tier your releases at AP, through the headphone icons in the voting list Smile

One of the things that makes it more difficult is that Gnosis 2000 has been out since September (rebuilding because of change of host), and that makes it more complicated for me to keep tracks of thingsOuch

Well I guess it depends on perception of what a "best of XXX list" is.
I'm generally known as someone that hates limits on lists, and will provide 2568794 entries for a top 5 list, just to show how annoyed I can be.LOL

Respected prog expert (from Sea Of Tranquility) Pete Pardo's lists read like a list of what was released in mainstream prog throughout the year and put an order  in it. His lists are always 100+, which gets you to wonderhow many times he's heard everyone of those.... or how much time he devotes to music, SoT and his YT vid chain (apparently he has a full-time job too).

Obviously albums that I haven't heard at least twice won't make my first draft list, but traditionally my personal faves of any year will have been listened to over 50 times (which is tougher to achieve for a great album released in November).

I thought I was done with my list but had just listened to Absolute Elsewhere by Blood Incantation for the first time and I think it has to go somewhere on my list. I rarely, if ever, listen to extreme/tech metal but decided to give it a spin based on the death metal meets (collides with?) Pink Floyd description. When it comes to this genre, I have no issues with growls and "cookie monster" vocals but relentless double bass drumming does wear on me. I have to decide on whether it is partially novelty appeal because I don't listen to this type of music or if it is really good. The synth contributions by Thorsten Quaesching of Tangerine Dream adds to the appeal (and novelty). Will give this a few more listens, if possible.

I wouldn't call it exciting or great (and didn't put it on my list), but it's a good listen, and I rate it comfortably above all his other solo albums except the debut. Maybe it's a bit similar to the Cure album - no innovation whatsoever but they do well what they are good at with all their maturity.

This was basically how I felt about Zopp being ahead of Agusa last year—thankfully it ended up turning out how I was hoping it would.
