Curiosity made me look up what PA looked like back in 2006, when there are already some operating captures (older ones might be more difficult to work with), and browsing through some of the pages I ended up on the "Art Rock" sub-genre main page, something we don't have anymore on PA but what was even more curious to see is the top albums of this genre that come up, including King Crimson, Rush, The Mars Volta, VdGG.

I think it makes up for an interesting conversation on how much things have changed on the website since then, and perhaps some of the original admins would be more knowledgeable. How did art rock come to be removed from the website and how did all the other sub-genres get born? Just generally curious to hear the story as well as the opinions of other forum users. Smile

Art-rock was not removed but split in three: eclectic, crossover and heavy-prog.

That's a heck of a top 12 in Art Rock.
I like that they split it, it's not perfect but better for someone like myself who is into sub genres lists.That Art Rock sub genre was massive.

That's a weird way of looking at it. If Art-Rock wasn't removed, it would obviously still be here. Art-Rock was removed from PA. The bands and artists however, were kept and placed in some newly made up sub-genres instead.

This was the cover I got when I purchased the CD from a local record store as an import (from ???) during the mid-to-late '90s.

Haha. And I thought Crossover Prog was a blanket category. xd

Also original "mason jar" Canadian cover was precariously die-cut.(function(){function c(){var b=a.contentDocument||a.contentWindow.document;if(b){var d=b.createElement('script');d.innerHTML="window.__CF$cv$params={r:'9052474f8c48ebb4',t:'MTczNzQwOTgwOS4wMDAwMDA='};var a=document.createElement('script');a.nonce='';a.src='/cdn-cgi/challenge-platform/scripts/jsd/main.js';document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(a);";b.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(d)}}if(document.body){var a=document.createElement('iframe');a.height=1;a.width=1;a.style.position='absolute';a.style.top=0;a.style.left=0;a.style.border='none';a.style.visibility='hidden';document.body.appendChild(a);if('loading'!==document.readyState)c();else if(window.addEventListener)document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded',c);else{var e=document.onreadystatechange||function(){};document.onreadystatechange=function(b){e(b);'loading'!==document.readyState&&(document.onreadystatechange=e,c())}}}})();< height="1" width="1" style=": ; top: 0px; left: 0px; border: none; visibility: ;">

So King Crimson, Rush, Van Der Graaf Generator and Gentle Giant weren't removed from the Progarchives along with Art-Rock? Good to know.
