It manages not to be both in the process and is actually overly nasty at times for me. At time of writing it's not clear whether it will get to Season 2. 6/10

Apple have now confirmed that they won't be preceeding with a Season 2. I'm not surprised as my review suggested, although such a shame for Rashida Jones, hopefully she will have another project to go to.

I as going to wait until Silo had fully dropped before starting. But, we couldn't wait any longer and watched just one episode last night. Season 2 finishes 17 Jan 25, so we'll have to ration ourselves lol. A great show.

I actually enjoyed Rings of Power despite the obvious issues with it. I just rolled with it and enjoyed what I could. Unfortunately, we're in a time when Peter Jackson's vision is considered great fantasy, which is influencing other series, intentionally or not. I'm the one guy out there who's not a Jackson fan.

Watching Silo now.

Show Of The Year 2024?

I would need to go back through my reviews to be sure, but certainly Fallout stands out for me. Perfection.
Nautilus was a very pleasant surprise and helped me though a tough week. Worth mentioning are Dark Matter and Bad Sisters which I enjoyed a lot.

Streaming Service of the year?
Apple TV+ for me. Great sci fi shows such as Dark Matter and Silo ( and with more Foundation and Severance to come it's not letting up). On the downside I can't stand Ted Lasso but unfortunately there is another season to come. Shrinking is so much better imo.

Dud Of The Year?
Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power Season 2. Sheer crappola, badly acted and a production that just went off the rails. Season 1 wasn't great either but it was watchable at least.

^ When you leave eight people by themselves miles apart in the Arctic for months with nothing but a camera and a few camping supplies, it's pretty compelling.

I never watch reality shows, but maybe if it shows up on something we're subbing.

^ Actually I prefer Alone, a reality series which is being re-shown on Defy, Saturdays at 11pm.

But not as bad as Lost got in late seasons. You could see it written on the faces of the actors even, like, please God let this be over.

BSG got padded a bit. I didn't care for the ending.

^ I thought the Battlestar reboot was very good but I was bored by the third season.   Sopranos I never got.   Downton Abbey I enjoyed but I do think Masterpiece has better shows ~ Wolf Hall, Sherlock, Maryland ~ and All Creatures is okay but too cloyingly sweet for me.   I missed Nolly which looks great, will look for it in reruns.

Before 2024 (10 Episodes)

Has been called Apple TV's answer to Stranger Things. That's a bit strong but it does seem to draw a line between the supernatural world and the psychological trauma of a young boy. However it lost me a bit in what it was trying to say and also was a bit too slow to develop. May have helped if Apple had put all the episodes out at once as I don't think it was interesting enough to justify the drip drip weekly episode release (its other current shows such as Silo and Bad Sisters are) and also didn't need so many episodes (6-8 would easily have been enough). 6/10

Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2

So this great series comes to an end with some musings about the old 'cowboy' way of life disappearing and the heartless money grabbing corporations ruining everything. Some great characters, the best being 'broken' Beth played by British actress Kelly Reilly. She will never get a better role that's for sure. There's talk of a spin off with her character but we will see. 8/10 (overall 9/10)

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Faithful embellishment of the period in Ben Kenobi's life during his exile on Tatooine as he watches over Luke.   Soon his solitude is interrupted by the Empire when they kidnap a ten year-old Princess Leia and he is compelled to go after her.   Excellent storytelling if a bit nostalgic, Obi-Wan Kenobi is quick-moving, full of action, and knits together well this somewhat obscure period in the Star Wars saga though it lacks the grittiness of Andor or the obscurity of The Acolyte and is in a more traditional Star Wars vein.

Lord Of The Rings: The Power Of The Rings Season 2

Season 2 was not good but they seemed to have plummed new depths with this. I can't help but compare it with Game Of Thrones which dragged the fantasy genre out of it's clunky world of usually dull characters and sub standard dialogue. Since Peter Jackson's ground breaking original film that mesmerised the world, they have literrally squeezed the life out of the LOTR franchise. The follow up films were severely underlwelming considering the budget, I never bothered with the Hobbit trilogy and now the TV series must surely be the last nail in its coffin, the season finale featuring at least one scene that either should have been cut or re-shot. It reminded me of 7 year olds doing a school play. An absolute shocking waste of money. 2/10

Finished The Penguin and an excellent show it was too. Both Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti deserve Oscars (as do the make-up artists). A rather nasty ending though which brought everything back to what we really expect of The Penguin. 9/10

Watched the first 2 episodes of Shogun. Amazing stuff.

Shetland Series 9
I love the characters in this although the plots are a bit wild (like the island!). The six episode thing is very BBC and they do it with a lot of things. Ashley Jenson has confirmed that Season 10 will happen with no sign of its  popularity slowing down. Would rate this one 8/10 but nothing is ever below that.
