The Terror

A fictionalized account of the Franklin expedition in search of the Northwest passage.

The ships Terror and Erebus get stuck in the ice and are forced to stay put for two years with 100 or so men.
Their tinned food was sealed with lead and they all get lead poisoning. Many go sick and insane from it.
A mutant killer polar bear is one of the many problems they face. ends in cannabalism and murder.
Horribly well done 10 episodes.

^ I love the short reviews for each TV show. The Terror was excellent, agreed. There is a second season which has absolutely nothing to do with the first - it's not bad though:

Yes I wonder why the 2nd season is called the terror. But I will watch it. This Virgin River is pretty good. It starts back up in a few weeks. I have yet to watch Yellowstone but I probably will.

Yellowstone is coming to an end currently with a few episodes left to air. It's being 'replaced' by Landman starring Billy Bob Thornton which has just started up, and is about the US oil industry. Thornton plays a 'fixer' type character who is forced to do some occasionally dangerous high paid work in order to pay the alimony for his divorce from his beautiful ex wife (played by the still impossibly good looking Ali Larter). It's a lot of fun and worth checking out based on the 2 episodes I've watch so far.

Recommend From on MGM+.....crazy weird horror,   and Evil is also great with Michael Emerson playing a goofy acolyte of Satan.

The Listeners 2024 (4 episodes)

A teacher is suddenly plagued by strange sounds that no one else can hear. The low rating on IMDB of 5.4 may be down to the ending not being tied up in a nice neat bow. I liked it despite that, it's well acted and very well written going into areas I wasn't expecting. 8/10

Shogun (the recent one)  I was skeptical about this recent series matching the most excellent original from 1980 with Richard Chamberlain, but I was very impressed. Great acting, screenplay, and sets and special effects. The recent Shogun has some important differences in the plot compared to the original, and they pull things off quite professionally. Loved it.

Watched the first 2 episodes of Shogun. Amazing stuff.

Shetland Series 9
I love the characters in this although the plots are a bit wild (like the island!). The six episode thing is very BBC and they do it with a lot of things. Ashley Jenson has confirmed that Season 10 will happen with no sign of its  popularity slowing down. Would rate this one 8/10 but nothing is ever below that.

Finished The Penguin and an excellent show it was too. Both Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti deserve Oscars (as do the make-up artists). A rather nasty ending though which brought everything back to what we really expect of The Penguin. 9/10

Lord Of The Rings: The Power Of The Rings Season 2

Season 2 was not good but they seemed to have plummed new depths with this. I can't help but compare it with Game Of Thrones which dragged the fantasy genre out of it's clunky world of usually dull characters and sub standard dialogue. Since Peter Jackson's ground breaking original film that mesmerised the world, they have literrally squeezed the life out of the LOTR franchise. The follow up films were severely underlwelming considering the budget, I never bothered with the Hobbit trilogy and now the TV series must surely be the last nail in its coffin, the season finale featuring at least one scene that either should have been cut or re-shot. It reminded me of 7 year olds doing a school play. An absolute shocking waste of money. 2/10

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Faithful embellishment of the period in Ben Kenobi's life during his exile on Tatooine as he watches over Luke.   Soon his solitude is interrupted by the Empire when they kidnap a ten year-old Princess Leia and he is compelled to go after her.   Excellent storytelling if a bit nostalgic, Obi-Wan Kenobi is quick-moving, full of action, and knits together well this somewhat obscure period in the Star Wars saga though it lacks the grittiness of Andor or the obscurity of The Acolyte and is in a more traditional Star Wars vein.

"Too often we enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought."   -- John F. Kennedy

Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2

So this great series comes to an end with some musings about the old 'cowboy' way of life disappearing and the heartless money grabbing corporations ruining everything. Some great characters, the best being 'broken' Beth played by British actress Kelly Reilly. She will never get a better role that's for sure. There's talk of a spin off with her character but we will see. 8/10 (overall 9/10)

Before 2024 (10 Episodes)

Has been called Apple TV's answer to Stranger Things. That's a bit strong but it does seem to draw a line between the supernatural world and the psychological trauma of a young boy. However it lost me a bit in what it was trying to say and also was a bit too slow to develop. May have helped if Apple had put all the episodes out at once as I don't think it was interesting enough to justify the drip drip weekly episode release (its other current shows such as Silo and Bad Sisters are) and also didn't need so many episodes (6-8 would easily have been enough). 6/10
