Your least liked of my liked from what you know

Nice one. This is a top quality playlist with many favourites of mine, I love all I remembered so I needed to listen into the few candidates that I didn't know or remember. I think I can fairly safely say now that I rate the Mr. Bungle track lowest on the list (although I love a lot of Mr. Bungle). 

Nice selection. I know several of these tracks and I do like most of them. This makes the choice rather easy: Epitaph. Not a bad song, but to my ears it sounds way over the top. Off ItCotCK I like Epitaph and the playing with toys on Moonchild less than the other parts of this album.

That was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be--especially when I started seeing how much I love almost every one of the songs on your list. But I've always disliked "Moon in June": no matter how many times I try, I just can't figure out what people see in that song!

Thanks to all who took the time to mention their selections and comment on this. To say it's hugely appreciated when people take the time to share their thoughts (if not mean-spirited bu heartfelt) is no exaggeration. I am someone who likes to be physically alone most of the time but does real enjoy interacting with thoughtful people in forums.

I think that for every person it connects with it is going to be somewhat different. A lot comes down to associations we make with the music.I adore it -- it connects with me emotionally. It really resonated with me. I like whimsy and kinds of experimentation. When I first heard Third, Slightly All the Time was the automatic standout. Then it was Out-Bloody-Rageous. Then "Moon in June" really clicked and became part of my DNA. I like quirky, I get a really nostalgic feeling when listening to the song (even though I have only known it for 20 years), it has a warmth to it, the singing and lyrics I enjoy and I like the way the song changes tone. I like its contrasts. I also love Robert Wyatt (Rock Bottom and Matching Mole are so great for me).

As a reviewer you might find it easier to get across what you like and dislike about music, but for me it's hard to get the emotions I feel across and whatever I wrote ends up feeling so superficial. It's one of those that I feel the most profound connection to, but getting somebody to understood how I feel, how it connects and resonated with me, well unless somebody feels something similar I think empathy would be hard. It's very interesting question that needs some soul searching, but each experience is unique to whatever extent. I am not religious, but there is something spiritual one might say in how it connects with me overall. Anyway, it speaks to me in my own own unique way.

"Moon in June" and "Hibou, Anemone and Bear" off second are my favourite actual songs by Soft Machine. Music is so personal, we each react in our own way, make different associations, connect to different personalities, interpret the music with our own unique brains and yet so many of us can and do appreciate the same things of course. And I have spoken to quite a number at PA over the years who did not connect with "Moon in June" at all and at least one more who seemed to question why or how others could enjoy it.

I wonder how you relate to Wyatt's solo music and Matching Mole.

By the way, there's something about Supertramp's "Try Again" off its debut that appeals to me in much the same way, and that is my favourite Supertramp song (it and the debut generally does not get much attention).



I often feel that I can understand why an individual does not like something intellectually, but trying to understand and "feel" what other feel in music is much harder. Maybe one day we will be able to link up and actually feel it, get it, really "grok" it (a favourite word of mine from one of my favourite novels, Stranger in a Strange Land). A big part of me being at PA has been about trying to understand people better, connect more, and share more of myself with people who care and also feel similarly as I always felt like a stranger in a strange land.
