Camel from this list. PFM and Nektar would be my other options.

My favorite out of these? It's probably a toss up between Kansas and Camel. Maybe Kansas by a tiny bit.

First 5 albums by Kansas was a great run. Always liked that the first album used the Tragic Prelude mural by John Curry as the artwork. The last two releases by Kansas are quite good too. |

Camel and Van Der Graaf Generator for me, but I will vote for Camel as I'm on a Camel kick lately.

All solid prog bands with their own qualities. They are also a bit 'after the fact' but it's interesting to have a list of the bands that sort of took the baton and ran with it. I can also say that I've seen 4 of them live, the one I haven't is Camel. Marillion were a massive disappointment. Kansas were easily the best and they still had the legend that is Steve Walsh. Porcupine Tree were excellent of both occasions. VDGG were interesting but not very exciting. P'Tree are the only one I would count in my personal Top Ten favourite bands so they have to get my vote.
EDIT - VDGG were not 'after the fact' of course, mainly a comment for the other 4! Edited by richardh - November 24 2024 at 21:11 |
