Don't worry, I'll be back on Monday with the 10th Arena Rock poll, but it's nice to be missed. Hug

Many of the polls of late have strayed well beyond the realms of prog, showing a list of artists I have no familiarity with, and unlike Greg's polls, am unlikely to venture into, which is why I don't often participate.

That said, I suppose you could argue that Paul produces so many new polls these days, that there probably isn't enough new ground to cover, if he kept it to purely prog... and like Mike says, it's all fine, provided there are plenty enough who enjoy participating?
Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

You're absolutely right! It's getting progressively harder to come up with new prog polls that haven't already been done several times before, so I'm having to branch out into other genres of music, such as Sophisti-Pop for instance. Smile

Hmm, I don’t think I’m much of a fan of sophisti-pop then😂Scritti Politti were ok☺️ Actually I did like Go West for a while too!

Not even Bryan Ferry? I currently have 26 Sophisti-Pop artists listed, so I'll have to drop one of the names from the list before I do a poll. It looks like Wet Wet Wet will have to go, which I'm not too sorry about. Tongue

They're three of my Sophisti-Pop favourites too, although I have a feeling most of my votes will be going to the lovely Rumer. Heart

Speaking of Progressive Electronic...

You did a Synth-Pop Britannia, and while I would not expect this from you, I'd like to see a Synth World which could include a wide range of electronica including Synth-Pop, Electropop, Synthwave, Vaporwave, Techno,IDM, Downtempo, Ambient, Trance, Spacesynth, Dungeon Synth, Electronic Dance Music, Neuro Funk, Electro Disco, Acid House, Skweee (Skweeeze My Lemon), Indietronica, Drill and bass, Acid techno Funktronica, Horror Synth, Progressive Electronic, Synth Punk, SynthShockTherapy (my own), various Trip Hop etc. Too big, I guess, unless covering already known favourites and some other high rated albums rather than whole discographies and listening through.

Some of my favourites include the ambient techno of Future Sound of London, the IDM/ Downtempo sounds of Boards of Canada (which is actually Scottish, one of my very, very favourite bands), the Drill and Bass, IDM, Ambient and Acid Techo sounds of Aphex Twin, the Synthwave, Chillwave, Synth Funk stylings of Com Truise... I'll do that at some time in my much more limited and ambitious way. And maybe I will do a poll 25 other Progressive Electronic artists as that is one of my favourite categories. In PA, I get very excited by Kosmischer Läufer, but I only know one other big fan here.

Love Blue Nile and, particularly, The Divine comedy (who are, surely, Chamber pop?Wink) Bit of Aztec camera is ok and a couple of the early Level 42 albums are ok too (they were really good live back in the day even if they were a bit smooth and encouraged the shiny, grey trouser and espadrille brigade LOL

And come on, where's Wang Chung?? WinkLOL

^^ When it comes to polling, I tend to stick to what I know and like, so I'll have to leave a future Synth World series of polls in your capable hands as most of those genres and artists you mentioned are well out of my comfort zone. Smile

Hats off to The Blue Nile for achieving joint first place in the second Sophisti-Pop poll, although that wasn't too difficult with just three votes shared between three artists. Smile

Wang Chung will have to wait for a future series of Synth-Pop polls. Wink

Was trying to have a bit of fun will all those subgenres of Synth (plus the one I made up of course). Just thought you might be entertained to see them -- not that it is entertaining, but thought we maybe could have some fun with it if coming up with some silly ones of our own. Not something I'd expect of you as I said. If I did one now or as a series I'd rather do one that is simply called "Electronic" as a very broad category. I like a huge variety of electronic music, progressive and otherwise. I likely will wait until after you do your poll (I like it when topics reinforce each other in a way by having related ones) and would avoid covering the same names.

I probably would like to do many of my usual suspects like:

Aphex Twin - drukqs (2001)
Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children (1998)
Björk - Homogenic (1997)
Coil - The Ape of Naples (2008)
Depeche Mode - Violator (1990)
Time Hecker - Virgins (2013)
Kraftwerk - Die Mensch-Maschine (1978)
Portishead - Third (2008)
Radiohead - Kid A (2000)
Stereolab - Dots and Loops (1997)
Sufan Stevens - The Age of Adz (2010)

Won't bore you with more as this is not really your stuff. Just using this thread about you and your polls to think aloud, sorry. On the other hand, I have covered such things so many times and it does get stale. I might started using RYM and making those list there (only thing is I like interaction with people if sharing lists).

Anyway, back on topic which is about your list and news of what to expect from Paul. :)
