With Porcupine Tree scooping up more than half the votes on the previous poll (2002), we could safely move on to 2003, another year full of incredibly strong releases with many familiar faces from the previous polls. Since there is no Porcupine Tree this year, let's see who might turn out to be the winner. Poll-winning albums as of now: 2000: Porcupine Tree - Lightbulb Sun 2001: Opeth - Blackwater Park 2002: Porcupine Tree - In Absentia

Nothing heavy about "Damnation", unless I'm missing something?
The Mars Volta is my choice. |

I really like Anekdoten's Gravity a lot, so that's where my vote went. Secretly hidden inside this post is a recipe for baked beans.

Not sure how much DT fits in with the others, but ToT gets my vote here...

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

I adore this album, but it's my runner up here to my favourite Anekdoten album Gravity. Maybe a co-favourite with Until All The Ghosts Are Gone actually. 2003 is a huge year for me, one of my all-time favourites. It's just good seeing the many albums you listed, bringing back good memories. OSI's debut is a favourite along with Train Of Thought and Out Of Myself from your list. How about some more? As for KC, this is another massive favorite of mine and despite being quite heavy overall, I didn't really know whether they fit the category as much as the other albums included... Well, probably they fit as much as Opeth's 'Damnation' In any case 'The Power to Believe' has to be the top honorable mention!

I was divided here between Anekdoten and the Mars Volta, but went with the Mars Volta. Damnation is not a heavy prog album.

It's been a long time since I last heard Anekdoten's Gravity. It's a band I liked but never became a particular favourite. I'm listening to it again now and am happy to give it my vote.
By the way, I understand that this is a contest, and there's nothing wrong with that, but for myself I don't treat these as competitions with winners or losers. I just like to the enthuse about music I appreciate with others, and that in itself make the music a winner in my book. And it makes me a winner if myself and others can together share in an express that appreciation ("one of us, gooble gobble, one of us..."). I am not the competitive type, but maybe that's because I always was more of wiener than a winner... Maybe a Bavarian Bratwurst? We should have wiener emoticon, --> I have heard the Prog community described as a sausage-fest. |

Anathema! Ironically, many of the other artists listed are an anathema to me.
